The Rtx-Volatile Amine is a base-deactivated capillary column for volatile amines. It is 60 m long, with an inner diameter of 0.32 mm and a film thickness of 5.00 µm, and the support tube is made of fused silica.
Base deactivation
The column is base-deactivated. It is tested with a specially developed test mix of basic compounds. It withstands repeated water injections, and volatile amines in water are among its applications.
Guard column and liner
Suitable accessories are base-deactivated fused silica guard columns and Topaz liners. A comparable phase from another manufacturer is the Agilent CP-Volamine.
Dimensions compared
With 60 m length and 5.00 µm film thickness, the column is considerably longer and more thickly coated than the 30 m columns with 0.25 µm in the shop. Amines are also on the application list of some general-purpose columns. The Rtx-Volatile Amine, by contrast, is base-deactivated and designed for volatile amines.

Temperature range
The column can be used from -60 °C to 270 °C isothermal and up to 290 °C in a temperature program. The first temperature value applies to isothermal operation, the second to temperature programs. The column has been in the range since 2010.
Numerical comparison
Compared with the 30 m columns with 0.25 mm ID and 0.25 µm film in the shop, the Rtx-Volatile Amine is twice as long. The inner diameter is 0.07 mm larger, and the film thickness at 5.00 µm is 20 times as large.
