Product information "Bürkle SiloBohrer Tank and Silo Sampler, V2A stainless steel, 1,500 mm penetration depth, 5301-2000"
Moist bulk materials, corrosive cleaning agents or strict hygiene requirements place greater demands on a sampler than dry, neutral material. The SiloBohrer V2A is the tank and silo sampler version made from V2A stainless steel (1.4301), designed specifically for these conditions: 1,500 mm penetration depth, a smooth, easy-to-clean surface and resistance to a wide range of chemicals.
V2A stainless steel: corrosion-resistant and hygienic
V2A stainless steel (1.4301) withstands moisture, many acids, alkalis and cleaning agents significantly better than aluminium and retains its shape even with frequent contact with aggressive media. The smooth surface can be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, which is an advantage wherever cross-contamination between batches must be avoided. This makes the V2A Silo Drill suitable for use in the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, where hygiene and material resistance are important factors beyond mere sampling.
Construction: identical dimensions, more robust material
The tube diameter, outer diameter and collection chamber correspond to those of the aluminium version: 40 mm tube diameter, 90 mm outer diameter at the tip, a collection chamber 300 mm long and 32 mm wide, which begins 123 mm behind the tip and holds 400 ml of sample material. With a total length of 1,524 mm, the SiloBohrer V2A weighs 5.9248 kg, around 1.8 kg more than the aluminium version. Given the more robust material and the greater resistance to abrasive particles, this is a reasonable trade-off in terms of weight.
When V2A stainless steel is worthwhile
Where tanks and silos are regularly cleaned and disinfected, or where sample material comes into contact with chemicals, the greater material resistance of V2A stainless steel pays off. If, on the other hand, the bulk material is dry and not very aggressive, and budget is the main consideration, the lighter and more affordable aluminium version of the SiloBohrer is the suitable alternative, offering identical dimensions and collection volumes.
A representative sample rather than a snapshot from above
If a silo is sampled only from the surface, the sample often reflects only the most recently filled layer. Moisture, clumping or chemical residues often only become apparent in deeper layers. With a penetration depth of 1,500 mm, the SiloBohrer V2A reaches a zone where such effects are more likely to be detected than at the surface, thereby providing a more reliable basis for quality assessment.
A single chamber or multiple zones simultaneously
The single collection chamber of the SiloBohrer V2A is sufficient for a single spot sample taken at a defined depth. However, if several layers are to be sampled in a single operation – for example, to document segregation across the entire height of the container – a multi-stage sampler such as the Multi-Collector is the more suitable solution.
Cleaning between two batches
The smooth stainless steel surface of the SiloBohrer V2A can be quickly wiped down or treated with cleaning agents between sampling operations without damaging the polish or material structure. This is a practical advantage, particularly when there are frequent batch changes within the same silo or tank, compared to materials that are more sensitive to aggressive cleaning agents. Residues can thus be completely removed before the sampler is inserted into the next batch.
Classifying V2A stainless steel as a material
Stainless steel 1.4301 contains chromium and nickel, which form a passive protective layer on the surface, making the material resistant to many everyday chemicals. Unlike aluminium, this protective layer remains stable even with frequent contact with cleaning agents or slightly acidic media, which explains the higher cost and weight compared to the aluminium version.
Typical areas of application
- Sampling from tanks and silos in the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries
- Moist or corrosive bulk materials that require frequent cleaning of the sampler
- Facilities with high hygiene requirements for sampling equipment
- Sampling of abrasive particles that place greater strain on the material

Service and procurement
For greater penetration depths or silos that are difficult to access, LT Laborhandel recommends the PowderProof vertical sampling lance. Those working with both non-critical and aggressive bulk materials can procure aluminium and stainless steel versions in parallel and use them depending on the batch. Individual requirements, such as spare parts or additional accessories, are handled by LT Laborhandel’s procurement service.
