Bürkle Stainless Steel Safety Container, with Pressure Relief Valve, 50 l, 2601-5050

Product information "Bürkle Stainless Steel Safety Container, with Pressure Relief Valve, 50 l, 2601-5050"

It is not practical to store large quantities of flammable liquids in jerrycans; a wide-necked container with a sturdy screw cap is the more practical design. The stainless steel safety container with a pressure relief valve has a capacity of 50 l and is the largest container size in this range designed purely for storage. Where several smaller canisters used to be stored side by side in the cupboard, this single container now holds the same volume whilst taking up less floor space.

50 l for centralised storage

With an external diameter of 365 mm and a height of 600 mm, the container holds 50 l of liquid, significantly more than the 10- or 25-litre versions in the same range. The screw cap with a G 1 1/2 inch external thread securely seals the container for storage.

1.5-millimetre wall thickness made from 1.4301 stainless steel

The container wall is 1.5 millimetres thick and is made of 1.4301 (V2A) stainless steel with PTFE seals. This wall thickness gives the large container the necessary stability, even when it is fully filled and moved frequently.

Pressure relief valve without additional dispensing technology

Unlike the smaller containers in the same series, this version features only a pressure relief valve, which opens at around 0.3 bar, but has no tap and no level indicator. This is sufficient for storage only and the occasional decanting of larger quantities; for frequent withdrawal in portions, a version with a tap is more practical.

Screw cap and thread

The container is sealed with a screw cap featuring a G 1 1/2 inch external thread, onto which the pressure relief valve is screwed. When opened for filling or dispensing, no vacuum builds up to hinder the pouring process, as air can also flow in via the same thread. For a 50-litre container with an opening of this size, this is a simple, low-maintenance closure with no additional moving parts such as a tap or gauge.

Handling a filled 50-litre container

A fully filled 50-litre container carries, in addition to its empty weight of 12.102 kilograms, the weight of the liquid it contains, which varies significantly depending on the medium. When moving it to another location, it is therefore advisable to use a hand truck or a second handle on the container, rather than lifting it by the screw cap alone. When opening the cap after a prolonged period of storage, the pressure relief valve will already have relieved some of the internal pressure beforehand; nevertheless, the cap should still be opened slowly.

Labelling without a specific standard

Bürkle labels the container as food-safe, but does not specify a particular standard, such as EU 10/2011, on the product page. Anyone requiring certification in accordance with this regulation for their own documentation should clarify this before placing an order.

When dosing or transport approval is required

If the container is regularly used for dispensing, a version with a tap is more practical, such as the Bürkle stainless steel safety container, with a tap in 10 or 25-litre sizes, or the Bürkle Stainless Steel Safety Container with a tap and contents indicator featuring an additional visual fill-level check. If the container must be approved for the transport of dangerous goods, the Bürkle stainless steel safety container with UN approval is the appropriate choice. When filling from drums or storage containers, the Bürkle stainless steel safety funnel helps to prevent spillage.

Typical applications

  • Centralised storage of large quantities of flammable liquids in laboratories or pilot plants
  • Collection tanks for solvent waste prior to proper disposal
  • Temporary storage where frequent, small-batch filling is not required
  • Replacement for several smaller canisters at a central storage location
  • Storage tanks for processes that operate with flammable liquids in larger batches

Service and procurement

For larger requirements of storage containers across multiple sites or departments, LT Laborhandel can consolidate orders for several 50-litre containers and, if required, arrange for suitable accessories such as a funnel at the same time. If a smaller version with a tap is also required for the workplace, this can be clarified in the same enquiry. If you have any questions regarding the correct equipment or size, please contact LT Laborhandel directly for assistance.
