Heidolph Polymax 1040 Platform Shaker, 5° Wobble, 2 to 50 rpm, 543-42205-00

Product information "Heidolph Polymax 1040 Platform Shaker, 5° Wobble, 2 to 50 rpm, 543-42205-00"

On a tilting platform, the working surface tilts simultaneously around several axes, rather than simply rocking forwards and backwards or up and down. The Polymax 1040 thereby moves containers from varying directions, covering a speed range of 2 to 50 revolutions per minute, driven by an asynchronous motor with a maximum permissible payload of 5 kilograms.

Three-dimensional movement instead of single-axis tilting

Whilst the Duomax 1030 merely rocks about a single axis, the platform of the Polymax 1040 tilts in a wobbling motion in varying directions. This motion mixes liquids in vessels more evenly without the need to increase the rotational speed; it remains within the same range as the Duomax 1030, at 2 to 50 revolutions per minute.

Overall height and mechanical design

At 195 millimetres, the wobble drive is slightly taller than the rocking drive of the Duomax 1030, which measures 185 millimetres; the width and depth remain identical at 320 x 375 millimetres. On a laboratory worktop, this difference in height makes hardly any difference in practice, but it does show that the wobble motion involves a different mechanism to that of simple tilting.

Operation and Safety

The Polymax 1040 can be operated continuously or via a timer for up to 120 minutes; a self-resetting overheating protection mechanism safeguards the motor during longer runs. The unit is connected to 230 volts at 50 hertz or 115 volts at 60 hertz, fused with M 1.25 A or T 2.0 A respectively; the power consumption is 115 watts. Use is permitted at altitudes of up to 2,000 metres above sea level.

Upgrade to a temperature-controlled system

Several vessels can be agitated simultaneously on a working area of 290 x 258 millimetres. When combined with the Incubator 1000 heating module and an incubation hood, the tumbling shaker becomes a system for temperature-controlled applications, without the need for a separate incubator.

Typical applications

  • Multi-axis, gentle mixing of liquids in laboratory vessels
  • Time-controlled batches with a timer up to 120 minutes
  • Continuous operation for several hours thanks to self-resetting overheating protection
  • Temperature-controlled incubation in combination with a heating module and an incubation hood

Selection guide within the product range

If an application requires a more powerful, linear motion at a significantly higher speed, the Promax 1020 with an EC motor and up to 250 revolutions per minute is the better choice. For the same speed and angle of inclination, but with a single-axis rocking motion rather than a wobbling one, the Duomax 1030 is the ideal choice. For a rotating motion on a compact chassis, the Rotamax 120 is the better option.
