IKA KS 4000 ic control Incubating Shaker (with Cooling), 0003510100

Product information "IKA KS 4000 ic control Incubating Shaker (with Cooling), 0003510100"

Anyone who lets cell cultures or microbiological samples shake unattended overnight needs temperature control that also works below room temperature. The IKA KS 4000 ic control combines an orbital shaking motion with PID-controlled heating up to 80 degrees Celsius and a built-in cooling coil. Together with an externally connected circulation chiller, the 90 litre internal chamber reaches temperatures down to room temperature minus 10 degrees. Without this chiller, the device works as an incubating shaker with heating, entirely without active cooling.

PID control from minus 10 to 80 degrees Celsius

Two PT1000 temperature sensors and an integrated PID controller hold the set temperature with a setting accuracy of 0.1 kelvin. With a vessel containing 0.5 litre of water, 22 degrees room temperature and 37 degrees set temperature, the control accuracy is ±0.5 kelvin and the temperature stability is ±0.05 kelvin. With 0.2 litre of water at 25 degrees room temperature and 37 degrees set temperature, the stability falls to ±0.1 kelvin. Spread over five vessels of 0.5 litre each, the homogeneity in the interior is ±0.5 kelvin. A large LED display shows speed and temperature, and an additional connection socket in the working space takes a further PT1000 sensor, for example the supplied PT 1000.60 made of stainless steel.

Cooling coil and external circulation chiller belong together

The KS 4000 ic control has no compressor of its own and no refrigerant circuit of its own. The built-in cooling coil needs an externally connected circulation chiller, and IKA names models such as the RC 2 lite, the RC 2 basic or the RC 2 control for this. LT Laborhandel also carries the IKA RC 5 control for this purpose, with 1400 watt cooling capacity down to minus 30 degrees. Without a connected chiller, the temperature range remains limited to room temperature up to 80 degrees. Anyone who knows from the outset that work will only be done above room temperature saves the chiller and chooses the otherwise identical KS 4000 i control (ident no. 0003510000) without a cooling coil.

20 kilograms shaking load at 20 millimetre orbit

The orbital motion has a shaking orbit of 20 millimetres and carries up to 20 kilograms of shaking material including attachment. The speed ranges from 10 to 500 revolutions per minute, adjustable in steps of 1 rpm, with a deviation of ±5 rpm. The motor draws 82 watts and delivers 24 watts, designed for a duty cycle of 100 per cent. The electronic timer covers 0 to 999 hours, optionally in timer or continuous operation, with a 7-segment LED display for the remaining time.

Safety and everyday operation

In the event of a fault, the device switches off automatically, and likewise when the hood is opened during operation. The controls have an antimicrobial coating, and a drip tray with a drain hose at the back of the device catches spilled liquid. Via the RS-232 interface, the KS 4000 ic control can be connected to the laboratory device software labworldsoft, for documenting temperature, speed and time. The housing is made of powder-coated sheet steel, the front foil of polyester.

Typical applications

  • Microbiological cultures with a cooling requirement below room temperature
  • Cell cultivation with tight tolerances for temperature stability and homogeneity
  • Unmonitored shaking operation overnight or over the weekend
  • Documented temperature control via labworldsoft in quality-assured laboratories

IKA Recirculating Chiller RC 2 lite, Compact Laboratory Chiller, 400 W Cooling Capacity, 0025006624
IKA Recirculating Chiller RC 2 lite, Compact Laboratory Chiller, 400 W Cooling Capacity, 0025006624
Herstellernummer: 0025006624

Anyone who operates a rotary evaporator, a jacketed vessel or a reflux condenser knows the problem of the open tap water circuit: as the outside temperature rises, the cooling effect falls, and water consumption drives up costs and effort. The IKA RC 2 lite recirculating chiller replaces this open circuit with a closed, PID-controlled refrigeration circuit and delivers up to 400 watts of cooling capacity at 20 degrees Celsius, constant and independent of the season or the water pressure in the laboratory. Cooling capacity from room temperature down to minus 10 degrees Celsius The cooling capacity of the RC 2 lite falls as expected as the target temperature drops: 400 watts at 20 degrees, 350 watts at 10 degrees, 250 watts at 0 degrees and still 140 watts at minus 10 degrees Celsius. The working temperature range extends from minus 10 degrees Celsius to room temperature, and with an external heater the bath can additionally be operated up to 70 degrees Celsius. Control is handled by a PID controller with a PT1000 sensor and LED display. The temperature stability is ±0.5 kelvin according to DIN 12876, and the display resolution and setting accuracy are each 0.1 kelvin. Natural refrigerant R290 to DIN 12876 Class I The refrigerant used is R290, a natural, halogen-free hydrocarbon refrigerant, filled with 76 grams at a maximum permissible pressure of 21 bar. According to DIN 12876, the RC 2 lite is classified as Class I with the marking NFL and is therefore intended for operation with non-flammable liquids. Practical note: R290 (propane) is itself flammable, so, as with all laboratory equipment using a hydrocarbon refrigerant, we recommend a sufficiently ventilated installation location without open ignition sources in the immediate vicinity of the unit. Recirculating chiller, circulating thermostat or heating bath: choosing the right design Within the IKA temperature control family, three designs can be distinguished: pure recirculating chillers such as the RC 2 lite only cool, refrigerated heating circulators such as the HRC 2 series cool and heat in one unit, and heating baths such as the HB digital heat without an active cooling function. The following overview compares the cooling capacity at different target temperatures: ModelDesign20 °C10 °C0 °C-10 °CHeating power RC 2 lite (this product)Recirculating chiller400 W350 W250 W140 Wnone (external heater up to 70 °C possible) RC 2 basicRecirculating chiller400 W370 W320 W240 Wnone HRC 2 liteCirculating thermostat400 W350 W250 W100 W1000 W HRC 2 controlCirculating thermostat400 W370 W320 W240 W1500 W RC 2 lite, RC 2 basic or RC 2 GREEN control: the right specification level The RC 2 lite is the compact entry-level version of the IKA recirculating chiller series for pure cooling tasks down to minus 10 degrees Celsius, with the climate-friendly refrigerant R290. Anyone who prefers pure cooling with the synthetic refrigerant R134a and a cooling capacity of 400 watts will find it in the IKA RC 2 basic. Anyone looking for a more powerful version will find it in the IKA RC 2 GREEN control, which likewise uses the natural refrigerant R290 and, according to IKA, has roughly double the output of the previous device generation. If the same unit has to heat actively as well as cool, for example for temperature cycles between minus 10 and 100 degrees Celsius, the IKA HRC 2 lite is the right choice. It is identical in construction to the RC 2 lite, but with an additional 1000-watt heater and an extended working range. Typical applications As an external cooling source with a closed circuit, the RC 2 lite is suitable for the following, among others: Cooling of rotary evaporators, for example the IKA RV 10 digital V-C or the IKA RV 3 V-C, as a replacement for the open tap water circuit Cooling of reflux condensers in syntheses and extractions Cooling source for devices that dissipate heat via a heat exchanger, for example double-walled grinding vessels, cooled incubators, laboratory reactors or cooling coils Connection, installation and ongoing operation The integrated pressure/suction pump reaches a maximum flow rate of 18 litres per minute at a maximum pump pressure of 0.35 bar on the pressure side and 0.15 bar on the suction side, connected via M16x1 threaded connections. The scope of delivery includes two hose nozzles for DN 8 hoses, which allow standard cooling water hoses to be connected directly. The filling volume of the internal bath is between 1 and 3.5 litres. RS232 and USB-B are available for connection to a PC or process control system, for example for logging temperature profiles. With a noise level of 51 dB(A) and a permissible duty cycle of 100 per cent, the RC 2 lite is designed for continuous operation in everyday laboratory use. The permissible ambient temperature range is 5 to 32 degrees Celsius at a maximum of 80 per cent relative humidity. Which cooling capacity for which rotary evaporator The decisive factor in choosing the right cooling capacity is the target temperature of the respective evaporation process: if a cooling bath at around 0 degrees Celsius is sufficient, the RC 2 lite still has 250 watts of cooling capacity available, and at minus 10 degrees Celsius it is 140 watts. The lower the required target temperature or the higher the solvent throughput at the rotary evaporator, the more worthwhile it is to consider a more powerful specification level such as the RC 2 GREEN control. The pump capacity also plays a role when connecting external devices: a maximum flow rate of 18 litres per minute at 0 bar back pressure is sufficient for most laboratory reactors and rotary evaporators at a direct installation distance. With longer hose runs or several consumers connected in series, the actual flow rate falls accordingly because of the rising line resistance, so the shortest possible hose routing lets the full pump capacity reach the consumer. At the end of its service life, the device must not be disposed of with household waste but must be taken to a separate collection point for waste electrical equipment. The refrigerant R290 contained in the refrigeration circuit must be removed professionally by an approved refrigerant recovery company before disposal. Frequently asked questions about the RC 2 lite Can the RC 2 lite also heat? No, the RC 2 lite is a pure recirculating chiller. Heating the bath above room temperature is only possible with an external heater up to a maximum of 70 degrees Celsius. If an integrated heater is required, the IKA HRC 2 lite is the suitable alternative. Which hoses fit the RC 2 lite? The pump connections are designed as M16x1 threads, and two hose nozzles for DN 8 hoses are included in the scope of delivery. Is R290 as a refrigerant harmless in everyday laboratory use?R290 is a natural but flammable hydrocarbon refrigerant. For operation, we recommend a sufficiently ventilated installation location without open ignition sources in the immediate vicinity, as is usual for all devices with this type of refrigerant. How loud is the RC 2 lite in continuous operation? The noise level is 51 dB(A), and the device is designed for a duty cycle of 100 per cent. Can the RC 2 lite be integrated into laboratory software?Yes, the existing RS232 and USB-B interfaces allow the device to be connected to a PC or process control system. How does the RC 2 lite differ from the RC 2 GREEN control? Both are pure recirculating chillers with the natural refrigerant R290. The RC 2 GREEN control is the higher-specification, current version with, according to IKA, roughly double the output of the previous device generation, while the RC 2 lite is positioned as a compact entry-level model for applications down to minus 10 degrees Celsius. Is the pump capacity sufficient for several connected devices? The maximum flow rate of 18 l/min at 0 bar back pressure applies to a direct connection. With longer hose runs or several consumers in series, the flow actually available falls because of the line resistance, so a short hose routing is preferable. Individual requirements & procurement service For suitable connection hoses, additional valves, adapters or connection to existing laboratory reactors and rotary evaporators, our procurement service will support you. IKA RC 2 basic, Recirculating Cooler, 400 W Cooling Capacity, -20 °C, 0004171000
Herstellernummer: 0004171000

Not every laboratory cooling application requires the latest refrigerant; some require, above all, availability and a tried-and-tested, non-flammable refrigerant. The IKA RC 2 basic recirculating chiller delivers up to 400 watts of cooling capacity at 20 degrees Celsius and operates with the refrigerant R134a, which is classified in safety group A1 and is therefore non-flammable. This unit is a discontinued model and is offered from existing stock; it is available immediately, with no lead time. Cooling capacity from room temperature down to minus 20 degrees Celsius As expected, the cooling capacity of the RC 2 basic decreases as the target temperature falls: 400 watts at 20 degrees, 370 watts at 10 degrees, 320 watts at 0 degrees, 240 watts at minus 10 degrees and 130 watts at minus 20 degrees Celsius. The operating temperature range extends from minus 20 degrees Celsius to room temperature; with an external heater, the bath can also be operated at temperatures up to 80 degrees Celsius. Temperature is controlled via a PT100 sensor; temperature stability is ±0.1 Kelvin in accordance with DIN 12876. Refrigerant and availability Refrigerant R134a (HFC-134a), charge 230 g, corresponding to 0.33 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, GWP 1430, safety group A1 in accordance with DIN EN 378-1 (non-flammable). The RC 2 basic is a discontinued model: IKA ceased production on 31 July 2026, and only existing stock is available. Its successor is the IKA RC 2 GREEN basic, which uses the refrigerant R290 and, according to IKA, offers approximately double the cooling capacity. Anyone who requires the 400-watt cooling capacity of the RC 2 basic, and nothing more, will receive a unit with a spare parts guarantee of at least ten years according to IKA, available immediately from stock. Please contact us if you would like to compare both variants for your application. Circulating chiller, circulation bath or heating bath: the right design Within the IKA temperature control unit range, three different designs can be distinguished: pure circulation coolers, such as the RC 2 basic, are designed solely for cooling; cooling and heating circulation thermostats, such as the HRC-2 series, provide both cooling and heating in a single unit; and heating baths provide heating without an active cooling function. The following overview compares the cooling capacity at various target temperatures: ModelModel20 °C0 °C-20 °CRefrigerant RC 2 basic (this product)Circulating cooler400 W320 W130 WR134a RC 2 liteCirculating cooler400 W250 WNot specified (minimum -10 °C)R290 HRC 2 liteCirculating water bath400 W250 W100 W (at -10 °C)R290 RC 2 basic compared to RC 2 lite and the HRC-2 series With a minimum operating temperature of minus 20 degrees Celsius, the RC 2 basic covers the lowest operating temperature range of the recirculating chiller sizes in this power class currently available from us. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a unit using the R290 refrigerant, you will find this in the slightly more compact IKA RC 2 lite. If the same unit needs to provide active heating as well as cooling, the IKA HRC 2 lite is the right choice. Typical applications According to the manufacturer, the RC 2 basic is suitable as an external closed-circuit cooling source for, amongst other things, cooling external equipment such as: Laboratory reactors Calorimeters Incubation shakers Rotary evaporators, such as the IKA RV 10 digital V-C or the IKA RV 3 V-C Connection, installation and ongoing operation The integrated pressure/suction pump achieves a maximum flow rate of 18 l per minute at a maximum pump pressure of 0.3 bar on the pressure side and 0.2 bar on the suction side. The internal bath has a capacity of between 1.4 and 4.0 l. RS232 and USB interfaces are available for connection to a PC or process control system. The housing is protected to IP 21 in accordance with DIN EN 60529; it can be connected to either 230 or 115 volts at 50 or 60 hertz. Why now: End of production and selecting the correct cooling capacity IKA has discontinued production of the RC 2 basic with effect from 31 July 2026. Consequently, only existing stock is still available; further orders are no longer possible, and the current stock is the last batch available. When selecting the appropriate cooling capacity, the target temperature is the key factor: if a cooling bath at around 0 degrees Celsius is sufficient, 320 watts of cooling capacity is still available; it is only at minus 20 degrees Celsius that the capacity drops to 130 watts. For applications that regularly require temperatures below minus 10 degrees Celsius, the RC 2 basic, with its operating range extending down to minus 20 degrees Celsius, is one of the few options we stock in this performance class. Herstellernummer: 0025004186

If you have been searching for the IKA RC 2 basic recirculating chiller and have been redirected here: the previous model was discontinued on 31 July 2026; the IKA RC 2 GREEN basic recirculating chiller is the successor model designated by IKA. It delivers up to 800 watts of cooling capacity at 20 degrees Celsius and uses the natural refrigerant R290 instead of the previous R134a. As an external, closed-circuit cooling source, it cools rotary evaporators, laboratory reactors and other equipment with heat exchangers, regardless of the season or water pressure in the laboratory. Successor to the IKA RC 2 basic: what’s changing IKA has discontinued production of the RC 2 basic as of 31 July 2026 as part of the portfolio transition to natural refrigerants. IKA guarantees the availability of spare parts and repair services for all discontinued units in this series for at least 10 years. The RC 2 GREEN basic retains the design and connection dimensions virtually unchanged and is the direct successor. Compared with its predecessor, the refrigerant, cooling capacity and pump capacity have changed; in terms of temperature stability, the specified value for the successor is numerically higher than that of its predecessor. The following table compares both series with their respective documented values: FeatureRC 2 basic (predecessor)RC 2 GREEN basic (this product) RefrigerantR134aR290 Cooling capacity at 20 °C400 W800 W Max. pump pressure0.3 bar0.5 bar Max. flow rate18 l/min21 l/min Temperature stability (DIN 12876)±0.1 K±0.15 K Weight28.0 kg25.5 kg The RC 2 basic can still be used by existing customers; there is no ban on its operation and no expiry date for its use. Anyone still requiring a unit with the non-flammable refrigerant R134a will find the IKA RC 2 basic (item no. 0004171000) to be a suitable alternative from our remaining stock. Cooling capacity from room temperature down to minus 30 degrees Celsius As expected, the cooling capacity of the RC 2 GREEN basic decreases as the target temperature falls: 800 watts at 20 degrees Celsius, 700 watts at 10 degrees, 500 watts at 0 degrees, 400 watts at minus 10 degrees, 200 watts at minus 20 degrees and 90 watts at minus 30 degrees Celsius. The operating temperature range thus extends from minus 30 degrees Celsius to room temperature; with an external heater, the bath can also be operated at temperatures up to 70 degrees Celsius. Control is via a PT100 sensor with an LED display; the display resolution and setting accuracy of the setpoint temperature are both 0.1 Kelvin. R290 refrigerant: Safety group A3 and installation instructions The RC 2 GREEN basic operates with 69 grams of the natural refrigerant R290 (propane) at a maximum permissible pressure of 21 bar. According to DIN EN 378-1, R290 is classified as safety group A3 and is therefore flammable. According to the operating instructions, a minimum room volume of 9 cubic metres and a clearance of at least 20 centimetres in front of and behind the unit are required for safe operation: These values ensure that, even if the entire refrigerant charge were to escape, no flammable refrigerant-air mixture can form (R290: max. 8 g per cubic metre of room air). Practical note: As is standard for laboratory equipment using flammable refrigerants, it is recommended that the unit be installed in a well-ventilated area with no open ignition sources in the immediate vicinity. Display, warning functions and calibration The RC 2 GREEN basic displays the operating and safety temperatures on an LED display and features visual and audible warning functions in the event of overheating, as well as low- and high-level protection for the bath vessel. The internal temperature measurement can be calibrated. DIN 12876 specifies a temperature stability of ±0.15 Kelvin; the comparative value for the predecessor model can be found in the table in the section on the successor model above. If you have been searching for the IKA RC 2 control recirculating chiller and have been redirected here: the previous model was discontinued on 31 July 2026; the IKA RC 2 GREEN control recirculating chiller is the successor model designated by IKA. It delivers up to 800 watts of cooling capacity at 20 degrees Celsius, operates using the natural refrigerant R290 and supplements the cooling function with a PID controller featuring a TFT display, as well as a WiCo wireless controller for programmable temperature profiles. As an external cooling source, it cools rotary evaporators, laboratory reactors and other equipment fitted with heat exchangers. Successor to the IKA RC 2 control: what’s changing IKA has discontinued production of the RC 2 control as of 31 July 2026 as part of the portfolio transition to natural refrigerants. IKA guarantees the availability of spare parts and repair services for all discontinued units in this series for at least 10 years. The RC 2 GREEN control retains the design and connection dimensions virtually unchanged and is the direct successor. Compared with its predecessor, the refrigerant, cooling capacity and pump capacity have changed; in terms of temperature stability, the specified value for the successor is numerically higher than that of its predecessor. The following table compares both series with their respective documented values: FeatureRC 2 control (predecessor)RC 2 GREEN control (this product) RefrigerantR134aR290 Cooling capacity at 20 °C400 W800 W Max. pump pressure0.3 bar0.5 bar Max. flow rate18 l/min21 l/min Temperature stability (DIN 12876)±0.05 K±0.15 K Weight28.5 kg26.5 kg Unlike the RC 2 basic, the RC 2 control is no longer in stock; it is no longer possible to order this model with R134a. If you are looking for a cooling-only unit without a WiCo wireless controller, using the natural refrigerant R290, the IKA RC 2 GREEN basic is the right choice. Cooling capacity and control At 20 degrees Celsius, the RC 2 GREEN control delivers up to 800 watts of cooling capacity; at 10 degrees Celsius, this is 700 watts; at 0 degrees Celsius, 500 watts; at minus 10 degrees Celsius, 400 watts; at minus 20 degrees Celsius 200 watts and at minus 30 degrees Celsius 90 watts. The operating temperature range thus extends from minus 30 degrees Celsius to room temperature; with an external heater, the bath can also be used up to 70 degrees Celsius. Unlike the RC 2 GREEN basic, a PID controller with a TFT display manages the temperature control here; internally, a 3-point calibratable PT100 sensor takes measurements, the display resolution is 0.01 Kelvin, and the setting accuracy for the setpoint temperature is 0.1 Kelvin. According to DIN 12876, a temperature stability of ±0.15 Kelvin is specified; the comparative value for the predecessor model can be found in the table in the section on the successor model above. Refrigerant R290: Safety group A3 and installation instructions The RC 2 GREEN control also operates with the natural refrigerant R290 (propane), charged with 69 grams at a maximum permissible pressure of 21 bar. According to DIN EN 378-1, R290 belongs to safety group A3 and is therefore flammable; according to an IKA leaflet on the refrigerant, the GWP value of R290 is 3. According to the operating instructions, a minimum room volume of 9 cubic metres and a clearance of at least 20 centimetres in front of and behind the unit must be maintained to ensure safe operation, so that no flammable mixture can form even in the event of a complete leak of the refrigerant charge. Practical note: For ongoing operation, as is standard practice for laboratory equipment using flammable refrigerants, it is recommended to install the unit in a sufficiently ventilated location with no open ignition sources in the immediate vicinity. WiCo wireless controller: wireless operation with temperature programmes In addition to the built-in TFT display, the RC 2 GREEN control features a wireless controller (WiCo), which displays the relevant process parameters wirelessly and facilitates operation of the unit. Up to 10 temperature programmes, each with 10 steps, can be freely programmed in the WiCo; a timer/counter function is also available. Both the internal probe and an external PT100 probe connected via the LEMO socket can be calibrated using the 3-point calibration method. Selection guide: RC 2 GREEN control or RC 2 GREEN basic The RC 2 GREEN control and RC 2 GREEN basic share the same refrigeration circuit, cooling capacity and pump; the difference lies in the control system and operation: FeatureRC 2 GREEN control (this product)RC 2 GREEN basic Cooling capacity at 20 °C800 W800 W Temperature controlPID controller, TFT displayPT100 sensor, LED display Display resolution0.01 K0.1 K External PT100 connection (LEMO)yesno WiCo wireless controller with programmesyesno Weight26.5 kg25.5 kg If you wish to connect an external temperature sensor, programme temperature profiles or monitor the unit wirelessly, the RC 2 GREEN control is the right choice for you. If operating the unit directly without WiCo and an external sensor connection is sufficient, the IKA RC 2 GREEN basic is the slimmer and lighter alternative. Differentiation within the IKA recirculating chiller range Within the IKA temperature control unit range, the RC 2 GREEN control is the best-equipped dedicated cooling solution. Those looking for a more compact entry-level solution with lower cooling capacity will find it in the IKA RC 2 lite, which delivers up to 400 watts at 20 degrees Celsius. Those who need to actively heat as well as cool will find what they are looking for in the IKA HRC 2 GREEN control or, without the WiCo wireless controller, in the IKA HRC 2 GREEN basic; both are identical in construction to the RC 2 GREEN series but feature an additional heating function. Typical applications As an external cooling source with a closed circuit and programmable temperature control, the RC 2 GREEN control is suitable, amongst other things, for: Cooling rotary evaporators, such as the IKA RV 10 digital V-C or the IKA RV 3 V-C Cooling reflux condensers during syntheses and extractions with recurring temperature profiles As a cooling source for laboratory reactors, double-walled vessels and other equipment with heat exchangers Processes with external PT100 measurement directly on the test sample Connection, installation and ongoing operation The integrated pressure/suction pump achieves a maximum flow rate of 21 l per minute at a maximum pump pressure of 0.5 bar on the pressure side and 0.25 bar on the suction side, connected via M16x1 threaded connections. The internal bath has a capacity of between 1.4 and 4.0 l. In addition to RS232 and Micro-USB, a LEMO socket provides a third connection for an external PT100 temperature sensor. The permissible ambient temperature range is 5 to 32 degrees Celsius at a maximum relative humidity of 80 per cent; the housing is protected to IP 21 in accordance with DIN EN 60529.
