The new IKA RET basic anodised magnetic stirrer with heating (MPN 0020133787) represents a technological milestone, setting a completely new industry standard for comprehensive digitalisation, process reliability and process efficiency in the modern laboratory. As currently the most compact device in its performance class on the global market, this high-end mechatronic stirring drive delivers an outstanding heating output of 800 watts at a maximum operating temperature of 340 °C. The system has been specially developed for forward-looking B2B laboratory set-ups, where uncompromising mechanical resilience and maximum functional density must be combined with intuitive, error-free operation during continuous daily use.
Compact assembly with maximum power density and anodised protection
The materials science foundation of the 135 mm footprint is based on a highly conductive aluminium substrate featuring an energetically insulated design. This enables extreme heating rates of up to 9 K/min with absolutely homogeneous temperature distribution. For long-term protection against mechanical abrasion, deep scratches and highly aggressive chemical reagents, the surface is sealed with a specialised anodised coating. Despite this enormous power density, the instrument boasts an ultra-compact housing design measuring just 160 x 200 x 100 mm. The stirrer thus saves valuable space in the fume cupboard, can be easily positioned on any standard laboratory lifting platform and is ideally suited to complex, parallel experimental set-ups in the most confined spaces.
Forward-looking laboratory digitalisation via integrated network interfaces
To ensure seamless, barrier-free integration into networked Industry 4.0 laboratory infrastructures and automated documentation projects, the RET basic is equipped as standard with fully-fledged Wi-Fi and LAN interfaces. This technological system architecture allows the magnetic stirrer to be connected to a central network, monitored in real time, controlled remotely or integrated directly into higher-level software solutions. Direct device-to-device communication is also possible via the digital communication matrix, which is based on standardised, ASCII-based Namur commands. For example, the RET basic can be coupled with an IKA Eurostar overhead stirrer: if the stirring speed of the viscous medium falls below a critical threshold, the RET basic deactivates the heating system fully automatically – the fundamental prerequisite for reliable, unattended 24/7 continuous operation.
Maximum electrical safety in accordance with EN IEC 61010-2-010 and 18 safety features
With a total of 18 integrated safety features, the RET basic meets and exceeds the strict laboratory equipment standard EN IEC 61010-2-010 for heated laboratory equipment in all critical parameters. System safety is certified by an independent certificate from TÜV Süd in accordance with the internationally recognised NRTL standard (equivalent to UL and CSA). In addition to a self-contained, mechanically adjustable safety circuit via two separate plate sensors, the unit features innovative Delta-T medium monitoring, probe breakage and misalignment detection, as well as automatic heating shut-off in the event of a sudden drop in temperature (e.g. due to glass breakage). In the event of a safety shutdown, the integrated ‘Always Stir’ function is activated: heating is stopped whilst stirring remains active, thereby reliably preventing dangerous boiling delays or transient hotspots in the medium.
