Product information "IKA RV 8 rotary evaporator with dry ice condenser, coated, HB 10 heating bath, up to 300 rpm, 0010006360"
The RV 8 with dry ice condenser, coated, is the coated counterpart to the uncoated dry ice condenser model and combines cooling-water-free dry-ice cooling with the shatter protection offered by a coated glass surface. The RV 10.40 dry ice condenser and the RV 10.203 collection flask are coated, whilst the RV 10.84 evaporator flask remains uncoated. For processes that require both dry-ice cooling and additional breakage protection, for example, when handling aggressive or particularly valuable samples, this model meets both requirements simultaneously.
Coated dry ice cooler
The cooling surface area of the RV 10.40 dry ice condenser is 620 square centimetres. Unlike the water-cooled vertical condenser, there is no need for a water connection; instead, the condenser is filled with dry ice and acetone or isopropanol. The coating protects both the condenser and the supplied RV 10.203 collection flask from splinters should the glass break due to mechanical stress or thermal shock.
Hand lift and flask replacement
The manual lift has a stroke of 120 millimetres and a ‘lift-out’ safety function which automatically raises the flask out of the heating bath in the event of a power cut. The clamping mechanism with a push-off device makes it easy to change the 1,000-millilitre RV 10.84 evaporator flask; it can be operated with one hand by both right- and left-handed users. The speed ranges from 5 to 300 revolutions per minute.
Heating bath and connected load
The HB 10 heating bath heats up to 180 °C with a setting accuracy of 1 Kelvin and has a maximum capacity of 4 litres. Carrying handles make it easy to move, whilst a lock button locks the set temperature. A 24-volt DC circuit within the unit reduces the risk associated with mains-voltage components; the unit operates on the mains at 100 to 240 volts and has a power consumption of 1,500 watts.
Increase in weight compared with the uncoated version
Weighing 25.76 kilograms, this coated version is noticeably heavier than a drive unit without a condenser; the additional weight is due to the coated glass of the condenser and the collection flask. When moving the unit between workstations or mounting it on a trolley, it is therefore advisable to have a second person on hand, particularly when moving the heating bath and condenser together. The dimensions of 510 by 490 by 345 millimetres are the same as those of the other RV-8 models, so the space required on the laboratory bench remains unchanged.
Typical applications
- Distillation of low-boiling yet aggressive solvents without a cooling water supply
- Processes requiring a higher level of protection against breakage, such as those involving valuable or hazardous samples
- Mobile laboratory set-ups without a fixed water supply, which nevertheless rely on coated glass
- Add-on to existing RV-8 systems as a second unit that does not require cooling water, with splinter protection
Selection guide: an overview of the RV-8 family
We offer a choice of six RV-8 variants. This model is the only one that combines dry-ice cooling with a glass coating.
| Model | Glassware | Condenser | Peripherals in set |
| RV 8 V-C | Coated vertical glass set (RV 10.10) | Vertical condenser, 1,500 cm² | without pump, without chiller |
| RV 8 FLEX | without glass set | without condenser | without pump, without chiller |
| RV 8 with dry ice condenser | Evaporating and collection flasks, without glass set | RV 10.4 dry ice condenser, uncoated | without pump, without chiller |
| RV 8 with dry ice condenser, coated (this product) | Evaporating and collection flasks, coated | RV 10.40 dry ice condenser, coated | without pump, without chiller |
| RV 8 V Starter Solution | Uncoated vertical glass set (RV 10.1) | Vertical condenser, 1,500 cm² | VACSTAR lite, RC 2 lite |
| RV 8 pro V-C Complete, coated vertical glass | Coated vertical glass set | Vertical condenser | Complete set (see the product page for details) |
If you’re looking for the same dry ice condenser without a coating, you will find it at a lower price in the RV 8 with dry ice condenser. For smaller sample quantities, using the same principle, the RV 3 with dry ice condenser, coated, is suitable; for larger systems, the RV 10 digital with dry ice condenser, coated.
