Product information "IKA RV 10 digital Rotary Evaporator with Dry Ice Condenser, Coated, Motorised Lift, up to 280 rpm, 0010006364"
In this version of the RV 10 digital with dry ice condenser, the evaporating flask, receiving flask and RV 10.40 dry ice condenser are coated, which holds splinters together in the event of glass breakage instead of scattering them in the fume cupboard. The drive, operation and condenser design correspond to the uncoated dry ice condenser version: 7-segment display instead of colour display, motorised lift instead of manual operation, no integrated vacuum controller. For laboratories working with aggressive or toxic solvents, the coating is an obvious additional protection without anything changing in the drive technology. As with the uncoated model, the device comes with an evaporating flask of 1,000 millilitres volume and a receiving flask of 1,000 millilitres volume, both in coated design.
What the coating changes in operation
Technically, the distillation remains identical to the uncoated version, and only the glassware differs. If a crack or breakage occurs, the coating holds splinters together at the flask or condenser instead of letting them escape uncontrolled. The dry ice condenser with 620 square centimetres of cooling surface is filled with dry ice or another cooling medium as with the uncoated model and thus makes a cooling water connection unnecessary. The protection class IP 20 according to DIN EN 60529 and the permissible ambient range of 5 to 40 degrees Celsius at up to 80 per cent humidity apply unchanged from the uncoated model.
Accessories and expansion
Like the uncoated sibling model, this version is also compatible with the entire accessory platform of the RV 10 series. A second coated set of glassware, recirculating cooling as an alternative to dry ice operation or a vacuum pump with controller can be retrofitted should the requirements in the laboratory grow later. For ongoing operation, a standard cooling medium in the condenser jacket is sufficient, and no additional power connection is needed for cooling.
Drive, lift and heating bath
The speed can be set between 5 and 280 revolutions per minute, and the direction of rotation can be reversed for interval operation. The motorised lift has a stroke of 140 millimetres and moves the flask out of the heating bath at the push of a button, and a timer automatically takes over recurring process steps. The heating bath heats up to 180 degrees Celsius with a setting accuracy of 1 kelvin, the filling volume is 3 litres, and the heating power is 1300 watts.
Choice of coolant and handling in everyday use
As with the uncoated model, the dry ice condenser is filled with crushed dry ice, usually mixed with a solvent such as isopropanol or acetone so that the cold is distributed evenly around the cooling coils. With longer distillation series, refilling is routine, and the built-in timer and the motorised lift ease operation here, because the flask is raised automatically out of the heating bath at the end. The coating of the condenser and flask changes nothing in this sequence, and it only takes effect in the event of breakage. Cold-protection gloves are sensible when handling dry ice, as pure dry ice can cause frostbite on direct skin contact.
Typical applications
- Distillation of solvents where glass breakage would be particularly critical
- Low-boiling solvents without a cooling water connection, as with the uncoated version
- Laboratories with increased safety requirements for glassware
- Recurring distillation routines with a motorised lift and timer
- Training laboratories in which splinter protection is part of the safety concept
Selection guide: coated or uncoated
Anyone who does not need additional splinter protection saves money with the uncoated dry ice condenser version. Both versions share the drive, speed range and heating bath, and the difference lies solely in the glassware.
| Model | Equipment | Speed range | Operation |
| RV 10 digital V | Vertical glassware, uncoated | 5 to 280 rpm | 7-segment display, manual |
| RV 10 digital V-C | Vertical glassware, coated | 5 to 280 rpm | 7-segment display, manual |
| RV 10 digital FLEX | without glassware | 5 to 280 rpm | 7-segment display, manual |
| RV 10 digital with dry ice condenser | Dry ice condenser, 620 cm² | 5 to 280 rpm | 7-segment display, manual |
| RV 10 digital with dry ice condenser, coated (this product) | Dry ice condenser, coated, 620 cm² | 5 to 280 rpm | 7-segment display, manual |
For automated vacuum control with a colour display, the RV 10 auto V Starter Solution is available, and for smaller sample quantities the RV 3 from the same series family.

Warranty and procurement service
The IKA manufacturer's warranty applies to rotary evaporators: 2 years, extended to 5 years if registered at ika.com/register within 90 days of purchase. For a second condenser and flask set in coated design, a set of glassware or recirculating cooling as an alternative to dry ice operation, the procurement service of LT Laborhandel puts together the suitable combination, even if only a single glass part has to be replaced and not the entire set.
