Product information "IKA RV 8 rotary evaporator with dry ice cooler, coated glass, 0010006360"
The IKA RV 8 rotary evaporator with dry ice cooler (coated) represents a specialised, mechatronic system solution for highly efficient distillation and solvent recovery, which operates entirely independently of a conventional cooling water infrastructure. Designed as a professional entry-level model, this setup is ideally suited for use in laboratories where no running cooling water is available, or for processes in which extremely volatile, low-boiling-point solvents (such as ether or acetone) need to be condensed reliably and without significant emissions. When thermally separating complex mixtures of substances under vacuum, the precise interplay of mechanical rotational stability and maximum cryogenic condensation capacity guarantees gentle and reproducible operation.
Ergonomic mechanics and precise process control
The mechanical system architecture of the RV 8 is characterised by a perfectly balanced, manual lift. The entire glass assembly can be moved vertically with minimal effort. An integrated, mechanically adjustable end stop (Safety Stop) protects the glass assembly from accidental collision with the bottom of the heating bath or surrounding laboratory equipment. The ergonomic one-handed operation is optimally accessible for both right- and left-handed users. Precise control of the surface area is ensured by the digital LED display, which continuously shows the rotational speed. This can be adjusted with high precision from 5 to 300 revolutions per minute using a stepless rotary control, to ensure uniform film formation on the inner wall of the flask.
Universal heating bath with high thermodynamic energy density
The process engineering foundation for thermal energy transfer is provided by the HB digital universal water-oil heating bath, which is included in the scope of delivery. With a heating power of 1,300 watts, the bath achieves extremely short heat-up times and allows for a flexible operating temperature range from room temperature up to 180 °C. The system thus covers a wide range of applications, from conventional evaporation processes to high-boiling-point distillations. A clear digital display clearly shows the setpoint and actual temperatures. The ergonomically designed heating bath features integrated safety handles for safe handling and is structurally designed so that it can be moved flexibly within its footprint to optimally adjust the immersion depth of the evaporating flask.
Maximum condensation capacity thanks to a coated dry-ice cooler
The standout feature of this model variant is the vertical dry-ice cooler. Instead of a conventional cooling coil, the cooling jacket is filled with a mixture of dry ice and acetone (or a comparable cryogenic medium), enabling extremely low condensation temperatures of up to –78 °C to be achieved. This guarantees the near-complete capture of even the most volatile solvent vapours. To ensure uncompromising occupational safety, the entire glass assembly is encased in a transparent, highly resistant plastic safety coating (Coated). This protective layer minimises the risk of glass breakage due to mechanical impact and, in the critical event of an implosion under vacuum, prevents glass shards and toxic substances from flying about uncontrollably.

Individual requirements & accessories
As the IKA RV 8 with dry ice cooler is operated without an external recirculating chiller, the need for peripheral infrastructure is significantly reduced. To complete your distillation setup, all that is required is the integration of a suitable vacuum supply. Our laboratory range includes chemical-resistant diaphragm vacuum pumps (e.g. IKA MVP 10 digital) as well as precise, digital vacuum controllers for accurate boiling point control. For specialised applications, we also offer evaporation flasks in various volumes (from 50 to 3000 ml), as well as powder flasks, distillation spiders and original replacement seals. Please use our technical procurement service to configure your self-contained distillation setup.
