Product information "IKA UTTD basic Tissue Solution Disperser Set, IVD sample vessel BMT-20-S-IVD, 300 to 6,000 rpm, 0010013007"
Between collection in the operating theatre and arrival at the laboratory, tissue, cartilage and bone samples often undergo several handling steps, each of which represents a potential point of contamination. The UTTD basic Tissue Solution bridges this gap: the sample material is placed directly in the operating theatre into a sterile, single-use vessel already filled with saline solution, transported in this state and, upon arrival at the laboratory, fitted onto the ULTRA-TURRAX Tube Drive without the need for decanting. Disintegration is achieved by ten stainless-steel balls inside the vessel, driven by a tumbling rod. The kit is designed for microbiological and molecular biological processing, where cross-contamination between samples must be ruled out.
IVD-certified sample vessel with defined processing time
The BMT-20-S-IVD mixing vessel is classified as an in vitro diagnostic device in accordance with Directive 98/79/EC and is manufactured in accordance with ISO 13485:2016. It has a capacity of 20 millilitres with a working range of 5 to 15 millilitres, is pre-filled with 5 millilitres of 0.9 per cent saline solution and contains ten stainless steel balls, each 5 millimetres in diameter, forming a functional unit. When used in automated processing, the maximum processing time should be set at one minute; a longer processing time may lead to leaks; the specific procedure must be validated by the user. Sample collection in the laboratory is carried out via a pierceable membrane in the vessel lid, without opening the lid completely.
Drive unit for the basic model, with scale display
The set is driven by the ULTRA-TURRAX Tube Drive in its basic version: speed range 300 to 6,000 revolutions per minute, read off a scale, with a power input of 20 watts and a power output of 17 watts. According to the manufacturer, the grinding process using balls in the BMT-Tube operates at up to 3,000 revolutions per minute, which is sufficient for the digestion of tissue, cartilage and bone samples without unnecessarily heating the sample. Measuring 100 x 40 x 160 millimetres and weighing 0.75 kilograms, the drive can be set up directly next to the safety cabinet or in the operating theatre anteroom without taking up much space; it is powered by a 24 V DC power supply at 800 mA.
Typical areas of application
- Pre-operative sample preparation directly within the operating theatre workflow prior to further microbiological analysis
- Pathology and veterinary hygiene institutes for the processing of tissue and bone samples
- Molecular biological diagnostics, where the sample vessel serves as both a transport and storage container
- Human and veterinary medical laboratories requiring IVD-compliant disposable consumables
As the container remains hermetically sealed, the same sample can be tracked from collection right through to analysis in the laboratory without the need for decanting, which is particularly important in the case of infectious or sensitive material.
Selection guide: Tissue Solution or other UTTD sets
The Tissue Solution is tailored to IVD tissue samples processed by ball milling and utilises the ULTRA-TURRAX Tube Drive base unit without P-control. For tablet comminution in accordance with pharmacopoeia procedures, the UTTD control Pharma Solution with Dissolver mixing vessels is designed; for the homogenisation of tissue samples in life sciences research, the UTTD control Life Science Solution with dispersing vessels is used. Both utilise the more powerful ULTRA-TURRAX Tube Drive P control with an OLED display.
