Product information "Kern OZL 456 Stereo Zoom Microscope, Binocular, 0.75x-5x, LED Ring Light and Transmitted Light"
The Kern OZL 456 offers a slightly greater zoom range than the OZL 463 and OZL 466 column models: 0.75x to 5x on the objective lens, which, when used with the 10x eyepieces, gives a range of 7.5x to 50x. It also features an LED ring light, which is housed directly within the objective lens housing, and an additional transmitted light unit. The microscope is binocular and sits on a mechanical stand with space for the specimen.
Ring light in the objective housing
The incident light consists of a 1-watt LED ring, which is continuously dimmable and permanently integrated into the objective housing. Kern describes the illumination as uniform and shadow-free. The transmitted light unit has a power rating of 0.21 watts. The power supply is a plug-in unit; the protection class is III (safety extra-low voltage), and the cable on the unit is detachable.
Magnification, field of view and working distance
The zoom is continuously variable. The field of view measures 33 mm at the lowest magnification and 5 mm in diameter at 5x magnification. The HSWF-10x eyepieces have a field of view of 23 mm, an anti-fungus coating and a high eye point. The working distance is 113 mm; Kern specifies the maximum resolution as 0.004025 mm. Samples may be up to 45 mm high. The tube is inclined at 45 degrees and can be rotated; the interpupillary distance can be adjusted between 55 and 75 mm, and the dioptre adjustment operates on both sides. Focus is adjusted via a coarse focus knob.
Mechanical stand
Kern describes the mechanical stand as offering ample workspace and precise adjustment mechanisms. The unit measures 320 x 275 x 420 mm and has a net weight of 4.6 kg. Stand inserts in frosted glass and black and white (Ø 95 mm) are included as standard; a mechanical stage with a travel range of 75 x 55 mm and a dark-field insert for stereomicroscopes are listed as accessories. For magnifications higher than 50x, there are eyepieces with 15x, 20x and 25x magnification; for lower magnifications, a 5x eyepiece is available.
OZL 456 alongside the OZL 463 and OZL 466
The OZL 463 and the OZL 466 offer magnifications from 0.7x to 4.5x, have a working distance of 105 mm and accommodate specimens up to 140 mm in height. The OZL 456 offers higher magnification and allows for greater distance from the specimen, but can only accommodate specimens up to 45 mm in height. Those inspecting tall parts should choose one of the other two models. For those examining flat samples such as circuit boards or surfaces at up to 50x magnification, the OZL 456 is the right choice. Only the OZL 466 has a camera output.
Typical applications
Kern describes the OZL 456 as an all-rounder for all applications, highlighting its built-in high-quality optics and integrated LED lighting. Its technical specifications make it suitable for use with flat specimens up to 45 mm in height under reflected light and transmitted light at up to 50x magnification.
- Viewing flat specimens up to 45 mm in height
- Reflected light with ring light and transmitted light
- Magnifications from 7.5x to 50x
