The Memmert Humidity Chamber HCP240 is the largest version of the HCP series: 241 litres of internal volume, up to twelve shelves, 140 kg permissible total load. The housing measures 759 x 1,180 x 691 mm externally plus 56 mm door handle, and the interior 600 x 810 x 500 mm (depth less 35 mm for the fan). The chamber sets +18 to +90 °C and 20 to 95 % rh, optionally with rh-Off, and is controlled via the ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY.
Weight, dimensions and connection
At approx. 110 kg net weight, the HCP240 is the heaviest HCP. Connection is with 230 V and 50/60 Hz at approx. 1,840 W. Two stainless steel perforated sheets are inserted from the factory, and 15 kg apply per shelf. The interior is made of stainless steel 1.4301 (ASTM 304). A heated inner glass door sits behind the fully insulated stainless steel door, which closes with 2-point locking. In the rear wall (centre left), a humidity-tight silicone feedthrough with 40 mm inner diameter leads supply lines into the interior, and a silicone plug closes it.
Humidification and dehumidification
Humidification is from an external container with a self-priming pump. A water canister and the connection hose are included in the scope of delivery. An integrated germ barrier uses hot steam generation, and a sterile filter takes care of dehumidification. The water must be demineralised or fully deionised, with 5 to 10 µS/cm and a pH value of 5 to 7. Setting accuracy: 0.5 % rh for humidity, 0.1 °C for temperature. To avoid condensate formation, door and rear wall are additionally heated, in addition to the all-round heating on six sides. We will tell you about further options for the water supply on request.
Programs, calibration values and languages
AtmoCONTROL writes and transfers programs via Ethernet or USB. Three freely selectable values each for temperature and humidity can be calibrated. The countdown clock is set between 1 minute and 99 days, and SetpointWAIT begins the process time only at the setpoint temperature. Temperature appears in Celsius or Fahrenheit, and there are also time zones and the changeover between summer and winter time. Operation is possible in nine languages, including German, English, Spanish, French and Italian. After a power failure, the saved program sequence is available.
Alarm and self-diagnosis
The Pt100 sensors (two of them, DIN class A, 4-wire measurement) check each other, and if one sensor fails, the other continues to work. The AutoSAFETY monitoring "ASF" follows the setpoint at an interval that can be freely selected. Exceeding and falling below trigger a visual and acoustic alarm, and when exceeded the heating also switches off. The self-diagnosis system serves to find faults in temperature and humidity control. Permissible are 10 to 30 °C room temperature at a maximum of 70 % rel. humidity without condensation and an installation height up to 2,000 m above sea level. Also to be observed are at least 15 cm distance to the rear wall, 20 cm to the ceiling and 5 cm at the sides.
Placement in the HCP series
The next smaller HCP150 has 156 l, ten shelves and 120 kg total load. The HCP240 is above it with 241 l, twelve shelves and 140 kg. For more volume or operation near or below room temperature, the ICH260 climate chamber is the alternative from a different series: 256 l, setting temperature range -10 to +60 °C, humidity 10 to 80 % rh in the range +10 to +60 °C. The HCP240, by contrast, reaches up to +90 °C and up to 95 % rh.
