The Memmert UF450plus universal oven combines the series’ medium-sized 449-litre capacity with the TwinDISPLAY safety features: two redundant Pt100 sensors, HeatBALANCE and AutoSAFETY ensure process reliability even during long, unattended runs. The temperature range extends from 20 to 300 °C, whilst the electronically controlled air turbine actively distributes the heat throughout the interior. Fitted with castors that can be moved or locked in place, the cabinet – which weighs around 161 kg – can be repositioned despite its size. The UF450plus also serves as the technical basis for the medical version, the UF450mplus, which is designed for a different purpose.

Circulating air with redundant temperature measurement

The UF450plus’s air turbine, which is electronically controllable in 10 per cent increments, actively distributes the heat throughout the interior and achieves an operating temperature range from at least 10 °C above room temperature up to 300 °C. Two DIN Class A Pt100 sensors in a 4-wire configuration monitor each other; if one fails, the second automatically takes over its function. The setting accuracy is 0.1 °C from 0 to 99.9 °C and 0.5 °C from 100 °C upwards. Preheated fresh air is introduced via an electronically adjustable exhaust air damper; the exhaust air outlet with throttle valve can also be controlled electronically.

ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY: HeatBALANCE and AutoSAFETY

The UF450plus is controlled via the ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY, which features two high-resolution TFT colour graphic displays. The HeatBALANCE function allows fine-tuning of the heat output distribution between the upper and lower heating groups from –50 to +50 per cent, for example to compensate for temperature differences caused by unevenly distributed loads. AutoSAFETY also monitors over- and under-temperature conditions, automatically tracks the setpoint within a freely selectable tolerance range and triggers visual and audible alarms in the event of a deviation. Programmes are programmed, managed and transferred via the Ethernet interface or USB port using the AtmoCONTROL software. A programmable door lock and a door-open detection feature can be added as optional extras.

The interior measures 1,040 x 720 x 600 mm and accommodates 2 electropolished stainless steel wire shelves as standard; up to 8 shelves are possible in total. The maximum total load is 300 kg, with a maximum of 30 kg per shelf. The external dimensions of the cabinet are 1,224 x 1,247 x 784 mm, and the net weight is approximately 161 kg. The interior consists of easy-to-clean stainless steel, reinforced by deep-drawn ribbing, with protected, integrated 4-sided all-round heating; the housing is made of textured stainless steel with a fully galvanised sheet steel rear panel. Eight sizes ranging from 53 to 1,060 litres internal volume make up the Memmert UF range with forced convection, each also available with TwinDISPLAY. When selecting the appropriate size, the key factors – in addition to the volume – are the footprint and the number of shelves required.

Those who can do without sensor redundancy can save money with the structurally identical Memmert UF450 universal cabinet in the basic model with SingleDISPLAY. For samples sensitive to dust or air movement, the Memmert UN450plus universal cabinet offers the same housing with natural convection instead of an air turbine, and still features TwinDISPLAY. A third variant is the Memmert UF450mplus universal cabinet, which is technically largely identical but is classified as a Class I medical device intended for heating and maintaining the temperature of fango, silicate and APS packs in physiotherapy, rather than for laboratory drying and tempering processes. Anyone looking for a laboratory or industrial unit should opt for the UF450plus described here, not the mplus model.

Safety in accordance with DIN 12880, enhanced by AutoSAFETY

In addition to adjustable electronic temperature monitoring and AutoSAFETY, the UF450plus features a mechanical temperature limiter of protection class 1 in accordance with DIN 12880, which switches off the heating when the temperature reaches approximately 20 °C above the maximum cabinet temperature. The display also allows you to select either a temperature selector monitor of protection class 3.1 or a temperature selector limiter of protection class 2. An integrated self-diagnostic system assists with fault-finding, and 3 freely selectable temperature values can be calibrated. The unit bears CE and EAC markings as well as a UL mark.

Installation, operation and disposal

For operation, a minimum clearance of 15 cm from the wall and a maximum clearance of 20 cm from the ceiling must be maintained; a minimum clearance of 5 cm is sufficient on the sides from the wall or an adjacent unit. Installation is permitted at altitudes of up to 2,000 m above sea level at an ambient temperature of 5 °C to 40 °C and a relative humidity of no more than 80 per cent, non-condensing. Electrically, the cabinet is designed for overvoltage category II and pollution degree 2; it must only be transported in an upright position. Thanks to its castors, the UF450plus can still be moved within these specifications even after installation.
