WTW SenTix RJD PH Glass Electrode with Polymer Electrolyte and Temperature Sensor, Annular Diaphragm, 1 m Cable, 103732

Product information "WTW SenTix RJD PH Glass Electrode with Polymer Electrolyte and Temperature Sensor, Annular Diaphragm, 1 m Cable, 103732"

Creams, toothpaste and sulphide-containing liquids are among the media for which WTW specifies the SenTix RJD. The electrode has an open annular-gap diaphragm and a polymer filling that cannot be refilled. The glass shaft carries a dome-shaped membrane, and an NTC temperature sensor is housed within the shaft for automatic compensation.

Ring gap and Referid

Referid, a lifetime polymer filling, serves as the reference system. The diaphragm is an open annular gap around the shaft; there is neither a refill port nor an electrolyte level to monitor. The manufacturer specifies the electrode for use with emulsions and suspensions, sulphide-containing liquids, as well as lotions, creams and toothpaste, and also for measurements in contaminated samples in the laboratory.

Measurement data and measurement range

The shaft is 120 mm long, has a diameter of 12 mm and is made of glass. The membrane resistance is less than 600 MΩ. The pH measurement range is from 2 to 13, which is narrower than that of electrodes with a liquid electrolyte such as the SenTix 81; the temperature range is 0 to 80 °C. For strongly acidic or strongly alkaline solutions outside the 2 to 13 pH range, a different measuring chain is required.

Cable and probe

The 1 m long fixed cable terminates in a waterproof DIN plug and a 4 mm banana plug. For semi-solid samples, WTW offers the SenTix Sp puncture probe; for surfaces, the flat SenTix Sur. Like the RJD, both have a Referid filling, but feature an S7 connector head and do not have a built-in probe.

Storage and handling

The storage cap is used for storage. Between measurements, the measuring chain is stored in reference electrolyte (3 mol/l KCl, Ag⁺-free), left overnight in the cap filled with this solution. Dry storage or deionised water can cause permanent damage to the membrane. If the cap has dried out, the measuring chain must be left in the reference electrolyte for at least 24 hours. Grease and oil can be removed with water containing washing-up liquid; limescale deposits with citric acid. The measuring chain must then be conditioned for at least one hour and recalibrated.

Typical applications

  • Emulsions and suspensions
  • Sulphide-containing liquids
  • Lotions, creams and toothpaste
  • Measurement in contaminated samples in the laboratory
