Product information "Binder FD 56 Drying and Heating Oven with forced air circulation, 60 l, up to 300 °C, 9010-0303"
The Binder FD 56 drying oven from the Avantgarde.Line FD series is a drying and heating oven with forced convection, designed for applications requiring particularly rapid drying and sterilisation. With a usable volume of 60 litres and a temperature range from 10 °C above ambient temperature up to 300 °C, this compact benchtop unit is equally suitable for daily laboratory routines and for specific sterilisation processes.
Rapid heating thanks to a powerful fan
A powerful fan, combined with APT.line technology, ensures uniform temperature distribution throughout the entire interior. At 150 °C, the FD 56 achieves a spatial temperature deviation of 1.7 ± K and a temporal deviation of 0.3 ± K. The heating time to 150 °C is just 15 minutes. With an air change rate of 80 times per hour at 100 °C, rapid, uniform drying is achieved even with a dense load.
Operation and features in everyday laboratory use
The FD 56 is controlled via a controller with an LCD display; the exhaust air flap is controlled electromechanically and can thus be adapted to the respective drying or sterilisation process. With a sound pressure level of 43 dB(A) and energy consumption of 290 Wh/h at 150 °C, the unit is also suitable for continuous operation in everyday laboratory use.
Typical applications
- Drying of laboratory glassware and sample material in routine laboratory work
- Sterilisation processes in quality assurance and research
- Rapid heat treatment of small to medium-sized batches
- Complementary unit to larger drying and heating cabinets
For laboratories that regularly need to dry small to medium quantities of glassware or sample material, the FD 56 combines short heating times with a compact footprint, without compromising on temperature accuracy.

Selection guide within the range
BINDER’s Avantgarde.Line FD range with recirculation comprises five sizes. All share the same temperature range, LCD controller and electromechanically controlled exhaust air flap, but differ significantly in terms of usable volume and footprint.
| Model | Useful volume | External dimensions (W x D x H) |
| FD 23 (9010-0194) | 20 l | 435 x 520 x 495 mm |
| FD 56 (9010-0303) | 60 l | 560 x 565 x 625 mm |
| FD 115 (9010-0305) | 116 l | 710 x 605 x 735 mm |
| FD 260 (9010-0309) | 259 l | 810 x 825 x 940 mm |
| FD 720 (9010-0311) | 741 l | 1,165 x 870 x 1,590 mm |
The FD 56 described here, with a capacity of 60 litres, is suitable as a supplementary unit for small to medium-sized batches. If this volume is insufficient, the FD 115 with a 116-litre capacity is the next size up; for significantly larger quantities, the FD 260 with a 259-litre capacity or the FD 720 with a 741-litre capacity are available for large-scale applications. At the lower end of the range is the compact FD 23 model with a 20-litre capacity, designed for very small sample volumes and a minimal footprint.
Distinction from natural convection, Solid.Line and the FP and M equipment variants
The FD 56 operates with forced air circulation. Its counterpart with natural convection is the ED 56: without an active fan, heating up takes considerably longer, but air movement inside the chamber remains minimal, which is advantageous for some samples. Those on a tighter budget who are satisfied with a temperature range up to 250 °C and a simpler timer controller without an LCD display will find the FD-S 56 from the Solid.Line range to be the more economical alternative with a comparable usable volume.
If additional programmable temperature and time profiles are required, BINDER offers two higher-specification models above the FD 56 in size 56: the FP series (convection with programme functions) and the M series (convection with extensive programme functions), designated as the FP 56 and M 56 respectively. BINDER also uses the designation ‘Classic’ for certain smaller models.Line; as the current master data does not provide a consistent record of which LT items belong to this third line, no specific assignment is claimed here. An overview of the entire BINDER range available from LT Laborhandel can be found in the ‘Climate Chambers & Incubators’ category.
Application, operation and maintenance
The heating time to 150 °C is just 15 minutes; the spatial temperature deviation is 1.7 ± K and the temporal deviation is 0.3 ± K. With an air exchange rate of 80 times per hour at 100 °C, rapid, uniform drying is achieved even with a dense load. The sound pressure level of 43 dB(A) must be taken into account when installing the unit in a laboratory, particularly if it is in continuous operation in the immediate vicinity of workstations. The rated power of 1.1 kW is on a par with comparable forced-air drying cabinets of this size and must be taken into account when fusing the electrical circuit.
Practical note: Standard, non-abrasive laboratory cleaning products are suitable for maintaining the interior; we advise against the use of abrasive or chlorine-based agents. Calibration is recommended for the regular checking of temperature accuracy; LT Laborhandel can supply suitable calibration certificates via its procurement service. No separately verified data is available for the FD 56 regarding the class of the temperature selector limiter; therefore, no statement is deliberately made on this matter.
Investment rationale: When recirculation is sufficient, and when programme functions or natural convection are advisable
For day-to-day laboratory routines involving recurring drying and sterilisation processes at a constant setpoint temperature, the FD 56 with its LCD controller reliably meets these requirements. If, on the other hand, multi-stage temperature profiles need to be run automatically and repeatably, the additional cost of the FP 56 or M 56 is often recouped through reduced manual intervention. If air movement inside the chamber is undesirable, the ED 56 with natural convection is the only option, even if this means accepting longer heating-up times. If a temperature range up to 250 °C is sufficient, the FD-S 56 from the Solid.Line range offers additional savings on the initial purchase cost, without compromising performance for most routine applications in drying and heat treatment.
For higher loading densities, additional loading racks are available as accessories, as are calibration certificates and maintenance contracts of varying scope; both can be obtained via LT Laborhandel’s procurement service. Anyone who is still unsure whether the FD 56, FP 56 or M 56 is the more cost-effective choice for their intended application can also seek this assessment via the procurement service, rather than making a decision based solely on the data sheet specifications.
