Product information "Binder KBECO 240 refrigerated incubator with Peltier technology, 247 l, 230 V, 9020-0423"
If samples need to be kept at a reliable temperature in a microbiology or pharmaceutical QC laboratory, without a refrigerant circuit causing additional maintenance work or raising refrigerant compliance issues, the Binder KBECO 240 cooling incubator is a practical solution. The unit utilises Peltier technology with patented heat dissipation instead of a conventional compressor and covers a temperature range from 0 °C to +70 °C, with a maximum of 28 °C below ambient temperature. With a usable volume of 247 litres, the KBECO 240 is the most compact model in the KBECO series and is ideal for laboratories seeking a refrigerant-free cooling incubator with a manageable footprint.
Energy-efficient Peltier cooling for everyday laboratory use
The KBECO 240’s Peltier technology operates electrically, without the need for a compressor or refrigerant. This not only reduces maintenance requirements but, according to the manufacturer, also makes the cooling incubator one of the most energy-efficient units of its class on the market. A welcome side effect of the Peltier design is that the KBECO 240 operates significantly more quietly than compressor-based cooling incubators – an advantage in laboratories where several units are housed in a confined space or near office areas. The APT.line pre-heating chamber technology also ensures uniform air circulation throughout the entire interior.
Features for reproducible results
The inner chamber is made entirely of stainless steel, whilst the inner door is made of safety glass, allowing visual inspection of the samples without opening the door and without disrupting the temperature profile inside the chamber. Two stainless steel shelf grids are included as standard. An adjustable anti-condensation protection system prevents condensation in sensitive areas, whilst a feed-through fitted with a silicone plug (Ø 30 mm) allows external probes or cables to be inserted without compromising the chamber’s airtightness.
Documentation and process reliability
The temperature, along with additional information and alarms, is shown on an LCD display. An internal data logger continuously records measured values, which can be downloaded in an open format via USB – a practical feature for GLP-compliant documentation of temperature profiles. A device self-test enables a comprehensive status analysis, and the KBECO 240 can be integrated into the laboratory infrastructure via the Ethernet interface, for example for remote monitoring or connection to a monitoring system.
Typical applications
Refrigerated incubators such as the KBECO 240 are used wherever samples or cultures need to be incubated or stored below room temperature, but where a conventional fridge cannot provide the required temperature accuracy and stability. A microbiology laboratory, for example, uses the KBECO 240 to incubate bacterial cultures at constant temperatures below room temperature, whilst in pharmaceutical quality assurance the focus is on reproducible stability tests at defined temperatures. The KBECO 240 is also an obvious choice for laboratories with a stated focus on sustainability, thanks to its refrigerant-free, energy-efficient Peltier technology.
- Incubation and storage of temperature-sensitive cultures and samples in microbiology
- Stability and shelf-life tests in pharmaceutical quality assurance
- Cooled incubation in research laboratories with limited floor space
- Use in laboratories focusing on refrigerant-free, energy-efficient equipment
Selection guide: choosing the right size
The KBECO series comprises four sizes ranging from 247 to 1,020 litres, all featuring refrigerant-free Peltier technology and the same temperature range from 0 °C to +70 °C. The table below shows the actual usable volume and external dimensions for each size.
| KBECO 240 | 247 l | 925 x 796 x 1,461 mm |
| KBECO 400 | 400 l | 925 × 796 × 1,946 mm |
| KBECO 720 | 700 l | 1,250 x 885 x 1,925 mm |
| KBECO 1020 | 1,020 l | 1,250 x 1,149 x 1,925 mm |
With a capacity of 247 litres, the KBECO 240 is the most compact model in the series. If more space is required, the next step up is the Binder KBECO 400 refrigerated incubator, which offers a good 60 per cent more usable volume.
Differences from the neighbouring series
Those who prefer conventional compressor cooling to Peltier technology will find the Binder KB 260 refrigerated incubator to be a similarly sized unit in the KB series, using the R-600a refrigerant and without the typical limitation of Peltier units to a maximum of 28 °C below ambient temperature. If an extended temperature range down to minus 20 °C or above 70 °C is also required, the KB PRO series covers this with compressor technology. Within the Peltier family, the KT series, featuring the Binder KT 053 cooling incubator, also covers heating applications up to 100 °C, albeit in significantly smaller sizes with a maximum capacity of 163 litres.
Frequently asked questions before purchase
How far below room temperature can the KBECO 240 cool?
The Peltier module achieves a maximum of 28 °C below the respective ambient temperature, within a total range of 0 °C to +70 °C.
Can condensation inside the chamber be prevented?
An adjustable anti-condensation feature prevents condensation in sensitive areas inside the unit.
How can the KBECO 240’s temperature data be recorded?
An internal data logger continuously records the measured values and can be read out in an open format via USB; an Ethernet interface is also available for network connection.
