Product information "Bürkle Multi-Collector Multi-stage Sampler, V4A stainless steel, 430 mm, 5316-3055"
A sack in the goods-in area, a horizontal drum in production or a loose pile in the storage area: each of these situations requires a probe that can be inserted vertically from above or horizontally from the side and only releases its samples at the desired depth. The V4A Multi-Sampler is made entirely of 1.4404 stainless steel (V4A, AISI 316L) and is available in three sizes, with penetration depths ranging from 430 to 1,355 millimetres, featuring either three or five sampling chambers.
Suitable for use in sacks, drums, silos and stockpiles
The lance can be inserted vertically into a silo or a big bag, or horizontally from the side into a sack or a horizontal drum. A twisting motion of the handle opens the collection chambers only at the point where the sample is to be taken, and closes them again as the lance is withdrawn. This allows zone profiles to be taken even where a container is not accessible from above, such as in the case of horizontally stored drums or piles of material on the ground.
Solid stainless steel tube instead of a PTFE core
Unlike the V4A/PTFE multi-sampler, this version does not have a polytetrafluoroethylene core within the tube. The tube, made entirely of stainless steel, is more robust against intensive use and abrasive particles, though it is slightly heavier than the PTFE-core variant. The seals are made of acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR), whilst the mechanism also incorporates components made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Anyone who uses the sampler several times a day and is sensitive to every gram of weight will find the lighter PTFE-core version to be the more suitable alternative.
Removable tip for cleaning
The tip of the lance can be removed. This makes cleaning easier between two sampling operations on different materials, particularly when residues from the collection chambers or from the tip itself need to be completely removed before the next sample.
Three sizes ranging from 430 to 1,355 millimetres
The shortest version (5316-3055) has a penetration depth of 430 millimetres and three chambers, each with a capacity of 14 millilitres, totalling 42 millilitres. This short size is only available in the version made entirely from stainless steel; it is not available in the V4A/PTFE variant. The medium size (5316-3085) measures 710 millimetres and has three chambers, each with a capacity of 17 millilitres, totalling 51 millilitres. The longest version (5316-3150) measures 1,355 millimetres and has five chambers, each with a capacity of 17 millilitres, totalling 85 millilitres.
Chamber length and spacing increase with the size
As the size increases, not only does the number of chambers change, but so do their length and the distance between them. In the shortest version, the chambers are 80 millimetres long and 56 millimetres apart; in the two longer versions, the chamber length is 100 millimetres and the distance between them is 168 and 195 millimetres respectively. If you wish to test zones as evenly as possible across the entire penetration depth, you will find the exact values for each size in the table below.
Applications by sector
In the food industry, the Multi-Collector tests the homogeneity of cereals, maize, nuts, powders and granulates. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used for quality control of raw materials as well as intermediate and end products; in the chemical industry, it is used to analyse chemicals and powders for homogeneity and compliance with specifications. In the construction sector, materials science and research and development, it is used for sampling bulk materials such as sand and gravel.
Material tested in accordance with EU Regulation 1935/2004
A Bürkle collective certificate in accordance with EU Regulation 1935/2004 is available for the parts in contact with the medium, which are made of stainless steel, aluminium and PTFE; this confirms their suitability for food contact. The certificate covers several Bürkle products and does not constitute a product-specific individual test.
Choice within the Multi-Collector range
Within the Multi-Collector family, this version differs from the Multi-Collector V4A/PTFE in that it features a continuous stainless steel tube and an additional short version with a penetration depth of 430 millimetres. If, instead of a zone profile, only a targeted sample from a single depth is required, the Uno sampler – a targeted sampler from the same material family – is sufficient. If the sample is intended to represent the entire layer height rather than individual zones, the V4A all-layer sampler is more suitable.
Typical applications
- Zone profiles of bulk materials in sacks, drums, silos, big bags and stockpiles
- Homogeneity testing of cereals, maize, nuts, powders and granulates in the food industry
- Quality control of raw materials, as well as intermediate and end products, in the pharmaceutical industry
- Analysis of chemicals and powders in the chemical industry
- Sampling of sand, gravel and other bulk materials in the construction industry and materials science

Service and procurement
Whether the version made entirely of stainless steel or the lighter V4A/PTFE version is more suitable depends on the frequency of use and the requirements regarding weight and robustness. Bürkle also lists an optional emptying device as an accessory for this series; however, there is no separate item number for this. LT Laborhandel will check availability on request and advise on the choice between the three sizes and the two material variants. If you have any queries, please contact LT Laborhandel.
