Bürkle Stainless Steel Safety Canister, UN-approved, 10 l, 2601-7010

Product information "Bürkle Stainless Steel Safety Canister, UN-approved, 10 l, 2601-7010"

If a canister containing a flammable liquid is to be dispatched or transported between locations, it must have undergone an official type approval in accordance with dangerous goods regulations. The UN-approved stainless steel safety canister has been tested specifically for this purpose and is marked with its own UN approval number. Without this approval, a carrier may not accept the liquid in the relevant container for transport.

UN packaging code 3A1/X1.6/300

The canister bears the UN packaging code 3A1/X1.6/300 and, according to the manufacturer, is approved for the transport of dangerous goods in accordance with GGVSEB, GGVSee, ADR, RID, the IMDG Code and ICAO-TI. Anyone sending flammable solvents by freight forwarder or by road between two locations requires a container bearing precisely this marking. An ordinary safety canister without UN certification does not meet this requirement, even if it otherwise appears to be of the same design.

Flame arrestor instead of a pressure relief valve

Unlike the other canisters in this series, this UN-approved version does not have a separate pressure relief valve; instead, explosion protection is provided by a flame arrestor. This prevents a source of ignition outside the canister from causing a flame to flash back into the interior. This design is sufficient for transport purposes.

10-litre stainless steel 1.4571 in a compact design

With a capacity of 10 l and external dimensions of 280 x 130 x 380 mm, the canister is just as compact as the precision-dosing version of the same size, but is also made from the more corrosion-resistant stainless steel 1.4571 (V4A).

Same dimensions, different features

With an empty weight of 2.501 kilograms, the UN-approved canister weighs exactly the same as the safety canister with precision dispenser in the same 10-litre size; the external dimensions are also identical. The difference lies in the fittings: instead of a fine-dosing valve and pressure relief valve, this model features a screw cap with a flame arrestor, as required by the UN type approval for transport. Anyone who has both versions in stock can only distinguish them externally by the marking with the UN approval number; separate storage with clear labelling prevents mix-ups.

Packaging code 3A1/X1.6/300 in detail

The UN packaging code 3A1/X1.6/300 describes a metal canister with a non-removable lid (3A1), approved for all three packaging groups I to III (X), tested up to a relative density of 1.6 and a test pressure of 300 kilopascals. For businesses that stock both UN-approved and standard safety canisters, the code on the delivery note is the most reliable reference for selecting the correct type for a specific consignment.

If transport approval is not required or a larger volume is needed

If a canister with a fine-dosing valve is sufficient for laboratory use only without any transport requirements, the Bürkle stainless steel safety canister with a fine-dosing valve is the more practical and cost-effective choice. If a larger UN-approved container is required, the Bürkle stainless steel safety container with UN approval and a 25-litre capacity meets this need. For everyday use without transport approval, but with a screw cap available in several sizes, the Bürkle stainless steel safety canister with screw cap is the ideal choice. The Bürkle stainless steel safety funnel is useful for decanting into narrow openings.

Typical applications

  • Shipping flammable solvents between sites or via a haulage contractor
  • Transport by road, rail or sea, where proof of official dangerous goods approval is required
  • A compact alternative to the 25-litre UN-approved container when smaller quantities are sufficient
  • Businesses that, in addition to storage, regularly need to transport smaller batches
  • Stock where UN and non-UN canisters are kept side by side and must be clearly labelled

Service and procurement

For businesses that regularly dispatch flammable solvents or transport them between sites, LT Laborhandel will clarify in advance which size and approval are suitable for the respective transport route. If, in addition to transport, the order also covers standard laboratory use with precision-dosing canisters, both can be combined in a single order.
