A circular shaker with a 320 x 320 mm platform, which sits flat on the table at a height of 98 mm and can support a shaker load of up to 7.5 kg: this is the IKA KS 260 basic. The platform rotates with a 10 mm shaking stroke, and the speed is electronically controlled from 50 to 500 rpm. An LED display shows the speed and time. Compared to the ‘control’ models in the KS 260 series, it has a simpler specification.

Platform and attachments

The type of vessel placed on the platform is determined by the attachment. IKA offers, amongst others, the universal attachment AS 260.1, the dish attachment AS 260.3, the clamp holder AS 260.2 with Erlenmeyer flask clamps ranging from 10 ml to 2000 ml (AS 2.0 to AS 2.7), the adjustable tube rack IO R 2.10, the base holder AS 1.60 and the clamping roller AS 1.61. Attachments are not included in the Scope of delivery and must be ordered separately. Anyone ordering the KS 260 basic should therefore order the attachment at the same time.

Electronic control of speed and time

Speed and the timer are controlled electronically. The time can be set within a range of 5 to 50 minutes; there is also a continuous operation mode. The permissible duty cycle is 100 per cent. An analogue output is provided. The unit draws 45 W; the motor power at the shaft is 10 W. Permissible ambient temperatures range from 5 to 50 °C with up to 80 per cent relative humidity. The protection class is IP 21 in accordance with DIN EN 60529. In the standard version, the unit operates at 220 to 240 V; other voltage variants ranging from 100 to 120 V are available.

KS 260 basic or control

The KS 260 control has the same 10 mm stroke, but features an RS-232 interface, a time range of 1 to 5,999 minutes and a shaking table lock. IKA supplies the KS 260 control NOL variant without end-point positioning. If a lower shaking load and a shorter stroke of 4 mm are sufficient, the KS 130 control - with up to 800 rpm and a shaking load of 2 kg, is the smaller option.

The scope of delivery does not include attachments and they must be ordered separately. As an electrical appliance, the KS 260 basic must be disposed of via the separate collection scheme for waste electrical and electronic equipment at the end of its useful life, and must not be placed in household waste.

IKA manufacturer’s warranty: 2 years; extended to 3 years upon registration at ika.com/register within 90 days of purchase. IKA stocks power cables with Euro, UK, US or Swiss plugs as separate items.
