Product information "IKA T 10 battery ULTRA-TURRAX cordless disperser, 0.5 to 100 ml, up to 30,000 rpm, 0020103418"

According to the manufacturer, the IKA T 10 battery ULTRA-TURRAX is IKA’s first battery-powered, cordless disperser. The unit operates independently of a mains socket and can therefore also be used under a fume cupboard, in a laminar flow cabinet or directly at the sampling point. As with the T 10 basic, the processing volume ranges from 0.5 to 100 millilitres (H₂O), and the speed from 8,000 to 30,000 revolutions per minute.

Rechargeable battery instead of a mains cable

Three permanently installed 18650-type LiPo cells, with a total voltage of 10.8 volts and a capacity of 34.56 watt-hours, power the brushless DC motor. The battery weighs 160 grams and charges via a USB-C cable or a separate charging clip; whilst charging, the maximum power consumption is 45 watts, the charging voltage is 15 volts DC and the current draw is 3,000 milliamps. ‘Permanently fitted’ means that the battery is not designed to be replaced by users.

LCD display and lower motor power

Instead of the scale found on the T 10 basic, an LCD display shows the speed and timer numerically, which facilitates reproducible settings. When plugged in, the device draws a maximum of 30 watts and delivers 25 watts to the motor – significantly less than the mains-powered T 10 basic, which has a power consumption of 125 watts. Accordingly, the maximum viscosity that can be processed is 200 mPas, which is lower than the 5,000 mPas of the basic model. This is sufficient for low-viscosity to medium-viscosity samples; for very viscous samples, the T 10 basic remains the more suitable choice.

Integration with labworldsoft

According to the manufacturer, the T 10 battery can be integrated into the labworldsoft software for remote control, data export and documentation of process parameters. Operating instructions are available in twelve languages, ranging from German and English to Chinese, Japanese and Turkish.

Slim, lightweight and cable-free

Measuring 239 millimetres in length, 53 millimetres in width and 70 millimetres in depth, the housing is slightly longer than that of the T 10 basic, as the battery is housed in the handle. Nevertheless, its weight of 0.5 kilograms is less than that of the mains-powered model at 0.61 kilograms; indeed, there is no need for a cable to the mains adaptor whilst working.

Typical applications

  • On-site sampling without a power socket within reach
  • Homogenisation of tissue structures for sample preparation prior to pharmaceutical extractions
  • Working under a safety cabinet or in a laminar flow cabinet
  • Dispersion directly in microcentrifuge tubes

Selection guide: Single unit or set?

If you already have a stand, clamp and dispersing tool in your laboratory, the drive unit on its own will suffice. For a mobile starter kit, the following three sets are available: the T 10 battery Portable Solution with a dispersing tool for use on the move; the T 10 battery Complete Solution with an additional stand and cross-coupling for stationary use; or the T 10 battery Tissue Safe Solution with disposable tools for tissue samples and protection against cross-contamination. On the other hand, those who work on the mains anyway can save on the initial purchase cost with the T 10 basic ULTRA-TURRAX and benefit from the higher viscosity limit of 5,000 mPas.
