Memmert IF160plus incubator, 161 l, +20 to +80 °C, TwinDISPLAY

The Memmert IF160plus incubator has an internal volume of 161 litres and, with external dimensions of 745 x 1,104 x 584 mm, is 240 mm taller than the IF110plus, whilst having the same footprint of 745 x 584 mm. Two stainless steel grid shelves are included as standard, and up to eight shelves can be fitted. The unit is controlled via the ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY, featuring two TFT colour graphic displays and two Pt100 sensors that monitor each other.

More height, more shelves

The interior measures 560 x 720 x 400 mm (W x H x D); compared with the IF110plus, only the internal height has increased (720 mm instead of 480 mm), whilst the width and depth remain the same. It can accommodate up to eight shelves, compared with five in the IF110plus. The maximum total load is 210 kg, with a maximum of 20 kg per shelf; the net weight is around 96 kg. The IF160plus is connected to a 230 V supply at approx. 1,600 W or to a 115 V supply at approx. 900 W, in both cases at 50/60 Hz.

Control at greater unit height

Despite the increased internal height, the control technology remains unchanged: Two DIN Class A Pt100 sensors in a 4-wire configuration provide mutual backup and, in the event of a fault, take over the other’s function; the setting accuracy is 0.1 °C in the range from +20 to +80 °C. Using ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY, HeatBALANCE allows the heating power to be shifted between the upper and lower heating groups by between -50 and +50 %, whilst SetpointWAIT only starts the process time once the setpoint temperature has been reached. Three freely selectable temperature values can be calibrated; the digital countdown timer covers a range from 1 minute to 99 days; programmes are programmed, managed and transferred via Ethernet or USB using AtmoCONTROL. For internal sterilisation, there is a pre-set programme at 160 °C for 4 hours; this does not apply to any load placed inside the chamber.

Safety and alarms

In addition to the actual control function, AutoSAFETY automatically monitors both over- and under-temperature conditions at a freely selectable margin from the setpoint, signals deviations visually and audibly, and switches off the heating if the setpoint is exceeded. As a second, independent level of protection, a mechanical temperature limiter of protection class 1 according to DIN 12880 switches off at around 20 °C above the maximum cabinet temperature; alternatively, an adjustable temperature monitor of protection class 3.1 or an adjustable temperature limiter of protection class 2 can be activated via the display. A self-diagnostic system assists with fault-finding; permissible operating conditions are an ambient temperature of +5 °C to +40 °C with a maximum relative humidity of 80 % (non-condensing) and an installation altitude of up to 2,000 m above sea level.

Guide to choosing the right size

If five shelves and a lower height are sufficient, the smaller IF110plus, with a capacity of 108 litres, is the obvious alternative. If larger batches are being incubated, the IF260plus, with a capacity of 256 litres and up to nine shelves, offers more capacity; see the size chart below.

As an incubator with forced air circulation, the IF160plus is designed for incubation and temperature-control processes and is used in research, medicine, pharmaceuticals, food analysis and food chemistry.
