Memmert IF260plus incubator, 256 L, with TwinDISPLAY and forced-air circulation

The Memmert IF260plus incubator has an internal volume of 256 litres and external dimensions of 824 x 1,183 x 684 mm; from the next size up, the IF450plus, the units are mounted on castors and can be moved and locked in place. Two stainless steel wire shelves are included as standard, and up to nine shelves can be fitted. Temperature control is provided by the ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY system, featuring two Pt100 sensors that monitor each other.

Interior and loading capacity

The interior measures 640 x 800 x 500 mm (W x H x D); a two-part roller frame with a height of 140 mm can be ordered ex-works. The 4-sided all-round heating system is protected behind the deep-drawn ribbed inner wall. A total load of up to 300 kg is permitted; as with the smaller models, the load per shelf remains at 20 kg, whilst the net weight is around 110 kg. The connected load is approx. 1,700 W at 230 V or approx. 900 W at 115 V, in both cases at 50/60 Hz. An electronically adjustable exhaust air flap mixes in preheated fresh air.

Control, HeatBALANCE and programming

On the ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY, the temperature is set within a range of +20 to +80 °C with a setting accuracy of 0.1 °C; it is measured by two DIN Class A Pt100 sensors that monitor each other, in the event of a fault, one sensor takes over the function of the other. HeatBALANCE allows the heating power to be shifted between the upper and lower heating groups by between -50 and +50 per cent; SetpointWAIT delays the start of the process until the setpoint temperature is reached; and three temperature values can be freely calibrated. AtmoCONTROL handles programming and management via Ethernet or USB. For interior sterilisation, there is a pre-set programme at 160 °C for 4 hours; the load placed inside is not included in this programme.

Security and Alarms

AutoSAFETY automatically monitors the upper and lower limits at a freely selectable distance from the setpoint, signals deviations visually and audibly, and switches off the heating if these limits are exceeded. A mechanical temperature limiter of protection class 1 in accordance with DIN 12880 operates independently of this at around 20 °C above the maximum cabinet temperature; alternatively, a temperature selector monitor of protection class 3.1 or an adjustable temperature limiter of protection class 2 can be selected on the display. A self-diagnostic system assists with troubleshooting. The IF260plus is approved for ambient temperatures of +5 °C to +40 °C, a maximum relative humidity of 80 per cent (non-condensing) and installation altitudes of up to 2,000 m above sea level.

Guide to choosing the right size

If batch sizes are smaller, the IF160plus, with a capacity of 161 litres, offers a more compact alternative with a lower overall weight. If you require more internal volume, 30 kg per tray instead of 20 kg, or a cabinet that can be moved and locked in place, the IF450plus, with a capacity of 449 litres, is the next step up. It has the same total load capacity of 300 kg and accommodates a maximum of eight trays, one fewer than the IF260plus; see the size chart below.
