Memmert IF55plus incubator, 53 L, with TwinDISPLAY & forced air circulation

The Memmert IF55plus incubator has an internal volume of 53 litres and, with external dimensions of 585 x 784 x 514 mm, is one of the more compact models in the range. The scope of delivery includes a stainless steel wire rack and space for up to four trays. It is suitable for smaller sample quantities where floor space is limited. The circulating air is generated by an air turbine and controlled via TwinDISPLAY using two Pt100 sensors.

Interior and air flow

The interior measures 400 x 400 x 330 mm and is reinforced by deep-drawn ribbing; the heating elements are integrated and protected on all four sides. The air turbine is electronically controllable and can be adjusted in 10 per cent increments; it is low-noise and segment-specific. Preheated fresh air is introduced via an electronically adjustable exhaust air damper; the exhaust air outlet with a throttle valve can also be controlled electronically. The permissible total load is 80 kg, with a maximum of 20 kg per shelf; the net weight of the cabinet is approximately 57 kg.

Controls and safety features

The temperature setting range extends from +20 to +80 °C with a setting accuracy of 0.1 °C. Two mutually monitoring Pt100 sensors of DIN Class A automatically take over the function of the other in the event of a fault; control is via ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY with two TFT colour graphic displays. HeatBALANCE redistributes the heating power between the upper and lower heating groups by up to 50 per cent in either direction, whilst SetpointWAIT ensures that the process time only begins once the setpoint temperature has been reached. Additional safety is provided by AutoSAFETY: This function monitors the setpoint within a freely selectable tolerance and triggers a visual and audible alarm in the event of a deviation; a mechanical temperature limiter of protection class 1 in accordance with DIN 12880 switches off independently of this at around 20 °C above the maximum cabinet temperature. On the display, users can choose to activate either a temperature selector monitor (protection class 3.1) or an adjustable temperature limiter (protection class 2); a self-diagnostic system assists with troubleshooting. Three temperature values can be freely calibrated; AtmoCONTROL manages programmes via Ethernet or USB; the permanently installed sterilisation programme sterilises the interior at 160 °C for 4 hours, but not the contents inside. Permitted operating conditions include an ambient temperature of +5 °C to +40 °C, a maximum relative humidity of 80 per cent (non-condensing) and an installation altitude of up to 2,000 m above sea level.

Guide to choosing the right size

For those with even less floor space or who only incubate individual small samples, the size chart below shows the IF30plus (32 l) as the most compact model in the range. If you regularly require more capacity, the IF75plus offers more space with a 74-litre capacity and up to six shelves. It has the same width and depth of 585 x 514 mm, but at 944 mm is 160 mm taller.
