SAUTER JCT 100 coating thickness gauge, Fe/NFe combination sensor, internal measuring cell
Uncompromising precision in surface technology: the SAUTER JCT 100 coating thickness gauge In modern industrial manufacturing, rigorous quality assurance, professional vehicle assessment and heavy-duty corrosion protection, the accurate and non-destructive measurement of coating thicknesses is an absolutely business-critical factor. Whether it is the thickness of a protective zinc coating on a steel girder, the uniform paint finish on a car body, or the anodised layer on an aluminium profile – even minute deviations from the specified tolerance values can have dramatic consequences. A coating that is too thin will inevitably lead to premature corrosion, material fatigue and costly warranty claims. A coating that is too thick, on the other hand, is prone to flaking, compromises the mechanical fit of components and, in mass production, wastes immense quantities of expensive raw materials (such as powder coating or zinc). To completely eliminate these massive quality and financial risks, KERN & SOHN has developed the JCT 100 digital coating thickness gauge (MPN JCT 100) under its specialist brand SAUTER. This compact, ergonomic and technologically advanced handheld measuring device provides you with absolutely reliable, digital readings within milliseconds and is the perfect solution for any professional user who needs to record high-precision, standards-compliant coating data on a daily basis. Intelligent dual technology: automatic Fe and NFe detection The greatest technological advantage of the SAUTER JCT 100 is its highly advanced, universal combination measuring cell. In industrial practice, one is constantly dealing with completely different base materials. The device therefore masters both relevant physical measurement principles to perfection. On the one hand, it uses the magnetic-inductive method (Fe mode) to measure non-magnetic coatings (such as varnish, paint, plastic, enamel, chrome, copper or zinc) on magnetic base materials such as steel and iron. On the other hand, the electronics switch instantly to the eddy current method (NFe mode) when you need to measure insulating layers (such as paint, anodised aluminium, plastic or ceramics) on non-magnetic metals such as aluminium, brass, copper or non-magnetic stainless steel. The real highlight for the user: the SAUTER JCT 100 detects the respective metallic base material (substrate) completely automatically! You do not need to manually reprogram the device when switching from a steel sheet to an aluminium component. Simply place the device on the component, and the internal microprocessor automatically selects the correct physical measurement mode. This massively speeds up the testing process on mixed assemblies (for example, on modern car bodies made from a combination of steel and aluminium) and categorically rules out critical measurement errors caused by the operator selecting the wrong mode manually. Ergonomics and precision thanks to an internal measuring cell The SAUTER JCT 100 has been deliberately designed as a compact, one-handed measuring device with an internally mounted measuring cell (probe). In the harsh realities of everyday industrial use, this design offers decisive advantages over devices with external cable probes. Firstly, it eliminates the hassle of handling delicate cables that could get caught on sharp edges or break. Secondly, the internal probe enables extremely stable and wobble-free one-handed operation. You can hold on with your free hand whilst, for example, carrying out measurements on a large silo or a bridge pier whilst standing on a ladder. The tip of the probe is also fitted with a special, wear-resistant V-groove. This sophisticated design ensures that you can always position the device perfectly centred and at an exact 90-degree angle, not only on perfectly flat metal sheets but also on heavily curved surfaces, round pipes, shafts or convex body panels. Only a perfectly vertical positioning guarantees physically correct and reproducible coating thickness readings. Comprehensive statistical analyses and alarm functions In professional quality control, a single measurement is often insufficient to assess the uniformity of a coating across a large area. The SAUTER JCT 100 is therefore equipped with a generous internal data memory and powerful statistical functions. During a series of measurements, the device automatically calculates the mean value, the absolute highest measured value (Max), the lowest value (Min) and the standard deviation. This allows you to immediately identify whether a painting robot is operating unevenly in production or whether paint drips have formed. To further optimise the workflow in series testing, the device features a freely programmable limit value function (limit alarm). You define a minimum and maximum film thickness in advance (for example, 80 µm to 120 µm). If a measured value falls outside this strict tolerance range, the device immediately alerts you with a highly visible visual and audible signal. This enables extremely rapid ‘pass/fail’ sorting of components at goods-in, without you having to analytically evaluate every single numerical value on the display. Calibration and GLP/ISO-compliant documentation For companies certified to the strict quality standards of DIN EN ISO 9001, the verifiable accuracy of test equipment is of the utmost importance. The SAUTER JCT 100 can be calibrated quickly and easily by the user at any time. The comprehensive scope of supply includes both zeroing plates (for Fe and NFe) and a set of high-precision calibration foils in various defined thicknesses. This allows you to precisely adjust the device to the expected measurement range and the surface roughness of your specific workpiece using a one-point or two-point calibration. The high-resolution, high-contrast display ensures that you can always read the results perfectly, even in poor lighting conditions in production halls or in bright sunlight on a building site. The SAUTER JCT 100 is therefore not just a measuring device, but an indispensable, cost-effective tool for active quality assurance, for preventing rejects and for the long-term protection of your brand’s reputation. SAUTER HBA 100-0 Analogue Shore hardness tester, Shore A, drag-type indicator
Mechanics of Shore A Indentation Hardness In the quality assurance of polymers, rubbers and elastomers, the macroscopic determination of hardness is a key metrological task. The SAUTER HBA 100-0 is a precise, analogue testing instrument for determining material hardness on the Shore A scale (in accordance with DIN ISO 48-4 / ASTM D2240). The physical measuring principle is based on the material’s resistance to penetration by a defined indenter. In the HBA 100-0 model, this indenter is geometrically designed as a truncated cone with an exact opening angle of 35°. It is pressed into the material under test with a defined contact force by means of a precisely calibrated steel spring – based on Hooke’s law. The mechanical penetration depth is inversely proportional to the material hardness: deep penetration of the indenter results in a low Shore value (soft material), whilst high resistance generates a high Shore value (hard material) on the dial. Viscoelasticity and peak hold via a mechanical drag pointer A fundamental phenomenon in the physics of materials relating to amorphous polymers and elastomers is their viscoelasticity. When mechanical stress is applied by the test specimen, the material immediately begins to relax due to molecular chain displacement (creep behaviour). The displayed hardness value therefore decreases continuously within the first few seconds of the measurement. To record the maximum initial value (peak) required by the standard absolutely accurately before material relaxation sets in, the SAUTER HBA 100-0 is equipped with a mechanical drag pointer function. A second, red indicator hand is pushed to the maximum deflection by the main hand and remains in this position. The user can therefore read the exact peak value conveniently and without parallax once the measurement is complete. Self-sufficient metrology for harsh industrial environments Opting for a purely mechanical, analogue measuring system offers significant advantages in harsh industrial field applications. The HBA 100-0 requires neither batteries nor electronic sensor calibrations and is therefore always ready for use independently. The sensitive mechanical conversion of the penetration depth into a rotational movement of the pointer is enclosed in a solid metal housing, which protects the precision mechanics from impacts and dust. The instrument is ideally suited for the non-destructive testing of soft rubber, neoprene, silicone, vinyl, felt and leather directly on the extrusion line or in the goods-in department. Reproducibility through standardised test benches In manual, free-hand measurements, the operator’s individual indentation speed and indentation force represent the greatest sources of physical error. To ensure absolute metrological reproducibility and to meet the strict repeatability tolerances of ISO standards, the housing of the HBA 100-0 is designed for direct adaptation to a standardised Shore test rig. The use of a test rig with a constant test weight fully standardises the kinematics of the measurement. Technical details Physical measurement method: Shore A (indentation hardness) Indenter geometry: truncated cone with a 35° opening angle Dynamic measurement range: 0 to 100 HA (Shore A) Metrological resolution (d): 1 HA Analogue display: High-contrast dial Peak function: Mechanical tracking pointer for recording peak values Material compatibility: elastomers, rubber, neoprene, silicone, felt, leather Power supply: Battery-free (purely mechanical system) Housing construction: Solid metal housing Compatibility: Designed for mounting on mechanical test rigs Compliance with standards: In accordance with DIN ISO 48-4 / ASTM D2240 Contents of supply 1 x SAUTER HBA 100-0 analogue Shore hardness tester 1 x Sturdy storage box 1 x Detailed operating instructions Individual requirements & accessories To eliminate the human factor from the force-displacement equation used in Shore measurements, we strongly recommend that certified quality assurance laboratories use a manual test rig (such as the SAUTER TI-AC). This applies the standard load precisely and lowers the test block onto the material sample at a perfectly orthogonal angle. For the regular verification of the mechanical spring constant in your laboratory, we also offer standardised Shore A reference plates. Our procurement service, which specialises in materials science, will be happy to configure a test setup for you that complies with the relevant standards.
SAUTER TD 225-0.1US Ultrasonic Material Thickness Gauge, external sensor, 225 mm
Wave mechanics in non-destructive testing (NDT) In industrial quality control, the monitoring of pressure vessels and the preventive maintenance of pipework systems, the precise determination of wall thicknesses is a safety-critical factor. The SAUTER TD 225-0.1US is a high-precision metrological instrument for non-destructive testing (NDT). The device is based on the physical pulse-echo method. A piezoelectric transducer in the external 5 MHz probe generates high-frequency mechanical longitudinal waves, which are coupled into the workpiece under test. As soon as these ultrasonic waves strike the material-specific back wall (the interface between the material and air), they are reflected almost entirely due to the massive impedance jump. The device’s integrated microelectronics measures the exact time-of-flight of the sound through the medium and uses this to calculate the absolute material thickness with a resolution of 0.1 mm. This process enables the comprehensive detection of internal corrosion or abrasion without compromising the structural integrity of the component. Acoustic impedance and variable sound speeds As mechanical waves propagate at different speeds in different molecular lattice structures, precise measurement requires the instrumental parameters to be precisely adapted to the material in question. The SAUTER TD 225-0.1US allows the material-specific speed of sound to be adjusted. This means the instrument can be calibrated not only for metallic isotropic materials such as steel, cast iron or aluminium, but also for homogeneous plastics, quartz glass or ceramics. This thermodynamic and acoustic flexibility makes the device a universal tool in the metalworking industry, shipbuilding and chemical plant engineering, where different alloys must be monitored for the slightest signs of material fatigue. Metrological integrity and acoustic coupling A fundamental physical problem in ultrasonic testing is the total reflection of high-frequency waves at microscopic air gaps between the sensor and the workpiece surface. To ensure perfect acoustic transmission (coupling) into the material, the system must be operated with a special ultrasonic coupling gel. The external, detached probe head enables the inspection of areas that are geometrically difficult to access or curved pipe walls. To metrologically compensate for thermal drifts in the electronics or mechanical wear of the piezo crystal, a solid zero-plate reference block (calibration block) is integrated directly onto the housing of the measuring device. This allows for immediate system calibration under real-world field conditions before the start of each critical measurement series. Digital data acquisition and field use The measuring system is specifically designed for harsh, mobile industrial field use. The robust, ergonomic housing protects the sensitive digital signal processing (DSP) hardware from mechanical shocks. For laboratories subject to strict ISO standards or GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) guidelines, the TD 225-0.1US features an RS-232 data interface. This enables the seamless export of measurement values to an external PC or printer for tamper-proof digital documentation of wall thickness trends and corrosion rates over extended maintenance intervals. Technical details Non-destructive ultrasonic measurement method Measurement range in steel from 1.2 to 225 mm High readability to exactly 0.1 mm External piezoelectric sensor operating at 5 MHz Adjustable material-specific sound velocity Integrated reference plate for system calibration RS-232 digital data interface for PC High-contrast LCD display for direct reading of measured values Automatic power-off function to conserve battery life Battery operation for mobile field use Robust housing design for harsh industrial environments Contents of the pack 1 x SAUTER TD 225-0.1US material thickness gauge 1 x external ultrasonic sensor (5 MHz) 1 x bottle of ultrasonic coupling gel 1 x Robust carrying case 4 x 1.5 V AAA batteries 1 x Detailed operating instructions Individual requirements & accessories As the coupling gel is essential for acoustic contact and thus for the physical feasibility of the measurement, we recommend ordering larger stock quantities (e.g. SAUTER ATB-US03) for routine operation. For a measurement that is verifiably compliant with standards in certified facilities, an initial ISO calibration certificate is also advisable. Our procurement service, staffed by metrology-trained specialists, will be happy to organise the issuance of the necessary calibration certificates for you, as well as the procurement of specialised sensors for different material thicknesses.
SAUTER TN 80-0.1US Ultrasonic Material Thickness Gauge, external sensor, 80 mm
Wave mechanics and acoustic time-of-flight analysis In industrial quality assurance (QA), the monitoring of high-pressure pipelines and non-destructive testing (NDT), the detection of minimal corrosion and material fatigue is critical to safety. The SAUTER TN 80-0.1US quantifies wall thicknesses using the physical pulse-echo method. The instrument emits mechanical longitudinal waves into the workpiece. When these high-frequency sound waves strike the interface between the solid and the surrounding air (back wall), the massive impedance jump results in an almost complete reflection of the sound. An integrated DSP microcontroller measures the exact time-of-flight of the echo to the nearest microsecond. Taking into account the material-specific speed of sound, the processor uses this to calculate the absolute material thickness with a high metrological resolution of 0.1 millimetres, without compromising the structural integrity of the component. High-frequency transduction for thin-walled isotropic materials An outstanding physical feature of the TN 80-0.1US model is its specialised external measuring head. Unlike standard probes (usually 5 MHz), this piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer operates at an increased frequency of 7 MHz. The physical consequence of this increase in frequency is a significantly shorter wavelength within the medium. This enables a vastly improved axial near-field resolution. As a result, the instrument is capable of detecting extremely thin wall thicknesses from 0.75 millimetres in steel with high precision. The instrument is therefore ideally suited for testing thin sheets, thin-walled tanks, glass plates or homogeneous plastics, where low-frequency sound waves would fail due to near-field interference. Thermodynamic drift compensation and acoustic coupling The speed of sound in a solid is not an absolute constant, but is subject to thermodynamic fluctuations and material-specific differences in alloy composition. The measurement system allows for variable, stepless adjustment of the sound velocity (between 1000 and 9999 m/s). To compensate for temperature-induced measurement deviations in the piezo crystals, the robust housing features an integrated zero-plate reference block (calibration block). This enables immediate system calibration under real-world conditions. To eliminate the physical total internal reflection of sound at microscopic air pockets between the sensor and the workpiece, the use of an acoustic coupling gel is mandatory, as this guarantees loss-free wave transmission. Digital data acquisition in harsh industrial environments The SAUTER TN 80-0.1US is not only a precise measuring instrument but also a self-contained data logger. For inspection laboratories carrying out comprehensive ISO documentation, the device features an internal memory for extensive measurement series (20 files, each containing up to 100 individual values). These data sets can be transferred via the integrated USB interface to peripheral devices for long-term analysis of corrosion rates, in a tamper-proof manner. The compact design and battery operation ensure unrestricted mobility when inspecting hard-to-reach industrial installations. Technical details Non-destructive pulse-echo ultrasonic method Measurement range in steel from 0.75 to 80 mm Metrological resolution of exactly 0.1 mm External piezoelectric transducer operating at 7 MHz Shorter wavelength for precise close-range resolution Infinitely adjustable sound velocity (1000–9999 m/s) Integrated zero-plate reference block for field calibration Internal data memory for up to 2000 measured values USB data interface for digital PC analysis High-contrast LCD display for direct visualisation Automatic power-off to extend battery life Contents of the pack 1 x SAUTER TN 80-0.1US ultrasonic material thickness gauge 1 x external ultrasonic sensor (7 MHz) 1 x bottle of ultrasonic coupling gel 1 x Sturdy carrying case 2 x 1.5 V AA batteries 1 x USB data cable 1 x Detailed operating instructions Individual requirements & accessories Seamless physical coupling of the ultrasonic waves is the foundation of every NDT measurement. We therefore recommend stocking up on sufficient coupling gel (e.g. SAUTER ATB-US03) in advance for large-scale industrial inspections. Do you require an official calibration certificate for your quality management audits, guaranteeing the metrological traceability of the measured values in accordance with ISO 9001? Our certified procurement service will be happy to arrange the issuance of the necessary calibration certificates ex works on your behalf.
Sauter TI-ACL manual Shore testing machine, hardness testing
The Sauter TI-ACL manual Shore testing machine represents a metrologically optimised system solution for the precise and standards-compliant determination of the Shore hardness of elastomers, plastics and rubber-like materials in laboratory and quality assurance applications. In Shore hardness testing, the precise and reproducible application of vertical force is the critical factor in eliminating measurement deviations caused by human factors whilst minimising damage to the material. Subjective errors, caused by uneven contact forces or minimal angular errors when manually positioning the durometer, are physically eliminated by the test rig’s rigid mechanical guidance. For quality managers and procurement officers in the plastics and automotive supply industries, this mechanical system component provides a reliable basis for valid material testing in accordance with DIN ISO 7619-1 and ASTM D2240. Mechanical precision and force application in accordance with standard specifications The design principle of the TI-ACL test rig is based on a high-precision guidance system that ensures the hardness tester is lowered absolutely vertically onto the material specimen. An ergonomically designed hand lever is used to lower the measuring head gently and evenly onto the material, thereby preventing transient impact loads on the specimen’s structure. To ensure compliance with the standard’s requirement for a constant contact force, the system incorporates a defined weight load. This constant mass ensures that the elastic deformation of the polymer is generated solely by the material-specific properties and not by varying user pressure, which drastically minimises the statistical variation in measurement series. Material-scientific stability and structural ergonomics The physical limits of the test rig are defined by an extremely torsionally rigid column structure and a solid base plate. This materials-science-based design guarantees outstanding mechanical resilience against fluctuating loads and vibrations encountered in everyday laboratory use. Fine-grained height adjustment allows flexible adaptation to a wide variety of specimen thicknesses and component geometries. The flat test surface ensures full-surface, error-free contact with the elastomer samples, thereby reliably compensating for local stress concentrations or deflections during the penetration process of the durometer indenter. Validated process reliability and GLP compliance For integration into modern quality assurance systems, the Sauter TI-ACL test rig offers the necessary validity and compliance with international testing standards. The use of this test rig increases measurement accuracy many times over compared to purely manual handling, which is an essential criterion, particularly during audits and first article inspections (FAI). Furthermore, its purely mechanical operation ensures that it requires absolutely no maintenance and is independent of electrical power sources, allowing the system to be deployed flexibly at various stages of the production chain or in a climate-controlled test room. Technical details Mechanics & Kinetics Drive type: Manual via an ergonomic hand lever Direction of movement: Purely vertical, guided lowering Height adjustment: Infinitely adjustable via a clamping mechanism Adjustability: Adaptation to different sample thicknesses Standards & Validation Supported test methods: Shore A, Shore O (depending on application) Compliance: Supports measurements in accordance with DIN ISO 7619-1, ASTM D2240 Error minimisation: Complete elimination of subjective angle errors and variations in contact pressure Design & Dimensions Base plate: Solid, heavy-duty design for maximum stability Guide column: Highly stable metal construction, torsion-resistant Test surface: Flat, ground surface for precise specimen positioning Maintenance: Low-wear, purely mechanical system architecture Scope of supply 1 x Sauter manual Shore testing unit TI-ACL base unit 1 x Integrated lever mechanism and guide column 1 x Operating instructions Important note: The Shore hardness tester (durometer, e.g. Sauter HB or HD series) required for the actual measurement, as well as specific additional weights, are not included in the standard scope of delivery and must be configured to suit the desired Shore scale. Customised requirements & accessories To carry out standard-compliant hardness tests, the Sauter TI-ACL Shore test stand must be fitted with a compatible analogue or digital Sauter durometer (e.g. Shore A). Depending on the selected test method, precisely calibrated additional weights are physically required to set the exact indentation forces in accordance with DIN ISO 7619-1. To verify the measurement accuracy of the entire system, we also recommend the use of certified Shore hardness comparison blocks. Please use our procurement service to put together your bespoke test station infrastructure.
Sauter Leeb HK-DB hardness tester for metals, portable hardness tester
The Sauter Leeb HK-DB hardness tester (MPN HK-DB) is a highly sophisticated mechatronic, metrologically precise and fully portable system solution for the non-destructive hardness testing of metallic materials. Based on the physical principle of the dynamic rebound method (according to Dietmar Leeb), this compact instrument enables highly reproducible hardness measurements to be carried out directly on site on solid components, heavy machinery parts or during incoming goods inspection. For demanding metallurgical tests in the foundry industry, mechanical engineering, steel construction and automotive quality control, this digital hardness testing system provides the metrological basis for monitoring material quality in a way that is gentle on the material, process-reliable and compliant with standards. The Leeb rebound principle for precise materials analysis The technical foundation of the HK-DB is based on the precise measurement of the transient velocity of a spring-driven impact body. A standardised carbide impact body is propelled by spring force against the surface of the test specimen. Upon impact, the body undergoes elastic deformation and rebounds. The flight velocities immediately before and after impact are measured inductively. The microprocessor control system generates the Leeb hardness value (HL) from the ratio of these two velocities. This dynamic measurement method is ideally suited to a wide range of metallic alloys such as steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminium, brass, bronze and copper. Universal scale conversion and smart data interfaces An outstanding metrological feature of the Sauter HK-DB is the automatic, error-free real-time conversion of the primary Leeb hardness value into all internationally recognised hardness scales. Users can view the measurement results directly on the high-contrast digital LCD display in Rockwell (HRC and HRB), Vickers (HV), Brinell (HB) or Shore (HS). To support seamless quality management in accordance with ISO 9001, the instrument features an integrated measurement data memory. Via the integrated USB interface, the transient test data can be reliably transferred to a higher-level B2B merchandise management system or documentation software. Robust design for harsh industrial environments The mechatronic system architecture of the HK-DB is consistently designed for maximum service life in continuous industrial use. The ergonomically shaped housing reliably protects the sensitive control electronics from mechanical vibrations, transient impacts and dusty environmental conditions in the production area. The external impact body of type D (impact device D), supplied as standard, guarantees a consistently constant impact energy thanks to its precise mechanical guidance. Sauter TB 200-0.1US ultrasonic material thickness gauge, external probe
The Sauter TB 200-0.1US ultrasonic material thickness gauge is a highly accurate, portable measurement system designed for the non-destructive determination of wall and material thicknesses in industrial manufacturing, maintenance and laboratory environments. When monitoring pipework systems, pressure vessels, metallic structures or polymer components, the precise measurement of material thicknesses is a critical factor in reliably identifying corrosive wear, loss of material or manufacturing deviations. This compact handheld measuring device covers a wide measurement range from 1.5 mm to 200 mm and provides a high degree of resolution down to 0.1 mm. For procurement officers and quality inspectors in quality assurance, this ultrasonic testing device (NDT) offers the highest level of validity, reliability and application-specific flexibility in day-to-day field use. Ultrasonic measurement principle and transient signal transit time The physical operating principle of the handheld device is based on the pulse-echo method. A piezoelectric crystal inside the external 5 MHz probe emits high-frequency ultrasonic waves, which penetrate the material sample longitudinally. Upon reaching the opposite boundary of the system (back-wall echo) or an internal defect, the sound is reflected and metrologically detected again by the sensor. The internal electronics calculate the exact distance from this transient signal transit time, taking into account the specific sound velocity of the respective material. With an adjustable sound velocity range of 500 to 9000 m/s, the system can be flexibly calibrated to the material under test, thereby eliminating measurement errors caused by changes in acoustic impedance whilst minimising damage to the material. Material-scientific versatility and zero-point adjustment The material-scientific flexibility of the Sauter TB 200-0.1US allows for the precise testing of a wide range of homogeneous materials such as steel, aluminium, cast iron, copper, brass, hard plastics, quartz glass or ceramics. To ensure the continuous integrity of the metrological chain, the housing features an integrated steel zero-point plate (calibration block). This permanently fitted reference surface enables the user to carry out quick and error-free on-site zero-point adjustment before each series of measurements. The combination of external sensor guidance and an integrated reference guarantees excellent reproducibility of the measured values, regardless of environmental influences or temperature fluctuations. Ergonomic housing design and mobile connectivity The housing architecture is specifically designed for mobile outdoor use and harsh laboratory conditions. The separation of the display unit and the ultrasonic sensor via a flexible cable allows measurements to be carried out ergonomically and without fatigue in hard-to-reach areas, on curved surfaces or in tight pipe bends. The high-contrast digital LCD display clearly shows the measured thickness values, thereby eliminating reading errors in multi-user operation. Intuitive operation is achieved via wear-free buttons that allow quick switching between units (mm/inch). SAUTER FK 1K Digital Force Gauge, Tensile and Compressive Force, Max. 1000 N
Precise force measurement for the highest quality standards: the SAUTER FK 1K digital force gauge In modern industrial manufacturing, rigorous quality control and advanced materials testing, the precise measurement of tensile and compressive forces is an absolutely essential process step. Whether in the automotive supply industry when inspecting connectors, in packaging technology when testing tear strength, or in the textile sector when checking seam strength – even minimal deviations from the specified force tolerances can lead to serious product defects, costly product recalls or major safety issues. Mechanical spring balances quickly reach their limits when faced with these high-precision requirements, due to reading errors, material fatigue and a lack of digital data analysis capabilities. The SAUTER FK 1K (MPN FK 1K) digital force gauge, from the renowned manufacturer KERN & SOHN, was developed precisely for these professional and standards-compliant applications. This compact, extremely robust and technologically advanced instrument provides you with absolutely reliable digital readings for forces up to an impressive maximum of 1,000 newtons (equivalent to approx. 100 kilograms), whilst offering outstanding portability for mobile use. Two measurement directions, one compact system: tensile and compressive forces The standout feature of the SAUTER FK 1K is its enormous versatility. The device comes as standard with a high-quality, internally mounted load cell that operates bidirectionally. This means that, using one and the same device, you can measure both tensile forces (for example, pulling apart a stuck-together material sample or pulling a cable out of a crimp connection) and compressive forces (for example, pressing a switch, the breaking strength of a tablet or closing a door) with high precision. Switching between the measurement directions requires no time-consuming reconfiguration of the hardware; the device automatically detects the applied force and immediately displays the exact value digitally. The scope of delivery already includes the most important standard attachments (such as hooks for tensile tests and flat or pointed compression blocks for compression tests), so you can adapt the measuring device to your specific material sample straight away. Intelligent display with automatic 180° rotation A common problem with mobile force measurement on large machines or components that are difficult to access is the readability of the display. If you need to turn the device upside down or pull it vertically downwards for an overhead measurement, the display on conventional devices would be upside down. The SAUTER FK 1K brilliantly solves this ergonomic problem: the high-contrast, brightly backlit LCD display features an automatic rotation function. As soon as you rotate the device by 180 degrees, the digital display rotates in sync at lightning speed. This means you always have a perfect, error-free view of the exact measurement values, the unit of measurement and the current operating mode, regardless of the physical position or extreme angle at which you are holding the device or clamping it into a test rig. This reduces reading errors by staff to an absolute minimum and enhances reliability when documenting results as part of ISO 9001 audits. Professional measurement modes: Track function and Peak Hold To meet the wide range of requirements in research and quality management, the SAUTER FK 1K offers two essential electronic measurement modes. Track mode is ideal for the continuous monitoring of force curves. The display updates in real time and tracks the applied force immediately. This is ideal for assessing frictional resistance when inserting components or the spring force of a mechanical switch over the entire spring travel. For destructive material testing, on the other hand, the peak-hold function (peak value recording) is absolutely indispensable. In this mode, the display automatically ‘freezes’ the highest measured force value. For example, when testing the tensile force at which a nylon thread breaks or a plastic injection-moulded part fractures, you do not need to read the value on the display in a fraction of a second. The device records the exact moment of material failure (the peak), allowing you to transfer this important value to your test reports after the test at your leisure and with the utmost accuracy. Mobility and system integration for professional test benches The SAUTER FK 1K is not only an outstanding handheld measuring device for mobile field work, but also an excellent basis for stationary test systems in the laboratory. The ergonomically shaped housing fits perfectly and securely in the hand during manual tests. Power is supplied by standard batteries, whilst an intelligent auto-off function significantly extends the operating time by automatically switching the device off when not in use. For test series requiring 100 per cent reproducible and uniform force application, the force measuring device can be easily mounted on all standard manual or motorised SAUTER test rigs thanks to the standardised threaded holes on the rear. This system integration transforms the compact handheld measuring device into a fully-fledged, stationary materials testing machine in no time at all, meeting the highest scientific and industrial standards. Technical data Measurement range (max): 1000 N (equivalent to approx. 100 kg) Resolution (d): 0.5 N Measurement directions: Tensile and compressive forces Load cell: Internally mounted Measurement frequency: 1000 Hz (high sampling rate for accurate peak values) Accuracy: 0.5% of [Max] Measurement modes: Track function (continuous) and peak hold (peak value detection) Display: LCD, backlit, with automatic 180° reversal function (reversible display) Overload protection: Up to 200% of the measurement range Power supply: Battery-operated (6 x 1.5 V AA), auto-off function to conserve battery life Threads for test bench mounting: Fitted as standard Housing dimensions (W×D×H): 195 × 84 × 35 mm Net weight: approx. 0.6 kg Contents of delivery 1 x SAUTER FK 1K digital force gauge 1 x set of standard attachments (hooks for tensile tests, pressure plates/tips for compression tests) 1 x extension rod (90 mm) 6 x 1.5 V AA batteries 1 x Sturdy carrying case 1 x Detailed operating instructions Customised requirements & accessories If your company operates a quality management system certified to DIN EN ISO 9001, regular calibration of your test equipment is mandatory. SAUTER SW 1000 Class 1 sound level metre, data logger, octave band filter
Wave mechanics and acoustic metrology of accuracy class 1 In occupational health and safety, comprehensive environmental monitoring and building acoustics analysis, the physically accurate measurement of sound pressure levels is a highly critical metrological requirement. The SAUTER SW 1000 is designed as a precise reference instrument of accuracy class 1 (in accordance with IEC 61672-1). The device measures the longitudinal pressure waves of sound across an extremely wide dynamic measurement range. To represent the enormous differences in sound pressure – from the absolute hearing threshold right up to the pain threshold in industrial mechanical engineering – linearly and without logarithmic distortion, the measuring system is equipped with a highly sensitive, capacitive 1/2-inch free-field microphone. The ultra-thin diaphragm converts the mechanical kinetic energy of the sound waves into electrical voltage fluctuations without any delay; these are then processed by the internal electronics at the highest sampling rate. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Frequency Weighting The objective physical measurement of sound pressure differs fundamentally from the subjective psychoacoustic perception of the human ear. The SW 1000’s internal microprocessor utilises advanced digital signal processing (DSP) to physically filter the incoming raw signal in real time. The device supports the standardised frequency weightings A, C and Z (linear). Whilst the A-weighting simulates the frequency-dependent sensitivity of the human ear, the unweighted Z setting is essential for the physically accurate quantification of low-frequency infrasound emissions from industrial plant. In parallel, the selectable time weighting (Fast, Slow, Impulse) enables precise analysis of signal dynamics – from continuous background noise through to explosive, transient sound events (impulse noise). An outstanding analytical feature is the integrated octave-band filter, which breaks down the complex frequency spectrum into discrete physical bands, thereby enabling the precise identification of resonance frequencies or disruptive tonal characteristics in machinery. Hardware integrity and GLP-compliant data logging To ensure the integrity of the raw acoustic data during long-term measurements under adverse microclimatic conditions, the SW 1000 is designed as a self-contained measurement system. The sensitive microphone capsule can be detached for interference-free calibration (using an external acoustic calibrator) or operated remotely via an extension cable for measurements in hard-to-access machine rooms. The supplied windscreen effectively eliminates aerodynamic noise caused by air turbulence. For certified test laboratories subject to strict GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) or ISO regulations, the instrument features a robust internal MicroSD-based data logger. Digital connectivity and analytical evaluation The continuously recorded measurement series (including Leq, Lmax, Lmin) can be transferred to peripheral devices via the integrated RS-232 or USB interface in a tamper-proof manner. The large, backlit LCD display allows for immediate visual monitoring of sound pressure trends directly in the field, without the need to connect a PC. The seamless digital traceability of all acoustic parameters guarantees legally compliant documentation for regulatory noise control requirements or occupational health assessments. Technical details Accuracy class 1 in accordance with IEC 61672-1 Highly sensitive 1/2-inch free-field microphone (detachable) Frequency weighting filters A, C and Z (linear) Selectable time weightings: Fast, Slow and Impulse Integrated octave-band filter for frequency analysis Wide dynamic measurement range for sound pressure levels Calculation of Leq, Lmax, Lmin and other parameters High-contrast, backlit LCD display for live readouts Internal data logger via MicroSD memory card USB and RS-232 digital interfaces for PC connection Robust housing design for mobile field use Tripod socket on the rear of the unit Contents of the pack 1 x SAUTER SW 1000 Class 1 sound level metre 1 x 1/2-inch free-field microphone 1 x Acoustic windscreen (foam) 1 x Sturdy carrying case 1 x MicroSD memory card 1 x USB data cable 1 x mains adaptor 1 x Detailed user manual Individual requirements & accessories To ensure legally compliant and standard-compliant measurements, a Class 1 sound level metre must be physically recalibrated before and after each significant series of measurements. We strongly recommend ordering a suitable acoustic calibrator (e.g. SAUTER BS 1) at the same time. For long-term measurements in a free field, we also recommend using a sturdy tripod. Our metrology-trained procurement service will be happy to configure a bespoke, ISO-certified measurement setup for you, including the necessary DAkkS calibration certificates.

Sauter FC 500 digital force gauge, internal load cell
The Sauter FC 500 digital force gauge with an internal load cell represents a highly precise metrological system solution for determining tensile and compressive forces in industrial quality assurance, materials science and pharmaceutical laboratory settings. When testing component strength, insertion forces or the tensile strength of materials, the precise measurement of mechanical loads is a critical factor in detecting structural defects and ensuring reliable compliance with statutory standards. The force gauge covers a measurement range of up to 500 N with a fine-grained readability of 0.1 N. For procurement officers and quality managers, this premium model offers the necessary validity and audit-proof reliability, as it has been specifically designed for demanding continuous use under GLP and GMP conditions. High-precision force measurement technology and internal sensor architecture The mechatronic heart of the Sauter FC 500 is based on a highly sophisticated, internally mounted force transducer (strain gauge technology). This protected sensor architecture shields the sensitive sensor components from external mechanical influences and transverse forces, such as those that can occur in the harsh everyday environment of a laboratory or production facility. The instrument delivers a measurement accuracy of ± 0.2 % of the maximum value and features an extremely fast sampling rate, enabling transient force peaks to be recorded with metrological precision. An integrated overload warning and a physical protection mechanism up to 150 % of the rated load effectively safeguard the system against irreversible load cell damage in the event of operating errors. Versatile operating modes and metrological validation The force measuring device provides versatile mathematical evaluation functions for detailed test reports. The integrated peak-hold mode freezes the maximum force value detected on the display, which is essential particularly for destructive material testing (e.g. fracture tests). In Track mode, on the other hand, the applied forces are displayed continuously in real time. For statistical process control, the system features a limit value function (Go/No-Go mode): once upper and lower tolerance limits have been defined, the device signals when these parameters are reached or exceeded via visual and audible alerts, which significantly speeds up throughput during series testing. Ergonomic housing design and connectivity for Lab 4.0 The housing of the Sauter FC 500 consists of a robust, ergonomically shaped die-cast aluminium casing that dampens vibrations and offers high torsional rigidity. A particular ergonomic highlight is the large, backlit graphic display with automatic or manual 180° inversion. This ensures that the measured value remains clearly legible at all times, whether during overhead manual measurement or when mounted vertically in a test rig. For seamless integration into digital Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), the device features USB and RS-232 interfaces, via which measurement data can be transferred to a PC in real time and documented using statistical software.
