Product information "IKA T 25 digital ULTRA-TURRAX disperser, 1 to 2,000 ml, 3,000 to 25,000 rpm, 0003725000"
A batch of formulation in a beaker, an emulsion in a 500-millilitre flask, a batch of cell suspension for sample preparation: the T 25 digital ULTRA-TURRAX is the classic drive unit for all tasks in everyday laboratory work involving volumes between 1 millilitre and 2 litres. It covers a speed range from 3,000 to 25,000 revolutions per minute and is supplied as a drive unit only, without a dispersing tool, so that each laboratory can choose the appropriate tool geometry itself.
Electronic speed control for reproducible batches
The speed can be adjusted continuously between 3,000 and 25,000 rpm, with a deviation of just 1 per cent. An LED display shows the set value directly, whilst electronic overload protection and an error code display ensure reliable operation. Without an attachment fitted, the unit remains comparatively quiet at 75 dB(A); the maximum viscosity is 5,000 mPas. For batches that alternate between low- and medium-viscosity phases, the speed can be readjusted at any time during the process without switching off the unit.
Compact drive for the laboratory bench
Measuring 87 x 271 x 106 millimetres and weighing 2.5 kilograms, the T 25 digital takes up little bench space; the arm measures 13 millimetres in diameter and 160 millimetres in length. The power input is 800 watts, whilst the power output is 500 watts. The unit operates at 220 to 240 volts at 50 or 60 hertz; a voltage variant of 100 to 120 volts is also available. Protection class IP 20 in accordance with DIN EN 60529 and a permissible duty cycle of 100 per cent round off the key technical specifications; the permissible ambient temperature range is from 5 to 40 degrees Celsius with up to 80 per cent relative humidity.
Assemble tools and stand as required
As no dispersing tool is supplied, each laboratory selects the geometry to suit the application: reusable stainless steel tools such as the S 25 N - 18 G - ST (Ident 0004447300) or the S 25 N - 25 G (Ident 0001713300), as well as disposable plastic tools in two sizes for applications where cross-contamination between samples must be ruled out. The S 25 KV – 25 G dissolver tool (Ident 0002466900) is suitable for more viscous media. For stationary operation, the R 1826 plate stand (ID 0003160100) with R 182 cross-sleeve (ID 0002657700) is available; for cleaning, the TS 25-3 Cleaning Tool (ID 0020003013) or the disposable tube S 18/25-ET50 (ID 0003452500) are suitable for cleaning.
Typical applications
- Homogenisation of wastewater samples in environmental analysis

Selection guide: individual drive unit or complete set
If you do not wish to put together the tool and stand separately, you will find the same technology, including accessories, in the T 25 digital Solution. For smaller tasks involving temperature measurement, the T 25 mini control ULTRA-TURRAX is the more compact alternative; for a housing design that is easier to clean, the T 25 easy clean digital is the choice. If the volume range of up to 2 litres is no longer sufficient for larger batches, the T 50 digital ULTRA-TURRAX handles volumes of up to 30 litres.

The IKA S 25 N – 25 G dispersing tool represents a high-purity and extremely powerful fluid-mechanical system solution for the professional comminution, homogenisation and emulsification of sample media on a standard laboratory and analytical scale. This precision-manufactured rotor-stator system has been specifically validated for use with the globally recognised IKA dispersing drives of the ULTRA-TURRAX T 25 series. In demanding processes within pharmaceutical quality control, food analysis, cosmetics development or basic medical research, the rapid and reproducible disruption of sample structures is the primary criterion for generating homogeneous phases – in a way that is gentle on the material and time-efficient – for subsequent extractions or analytical steps. Fluid-mechanical comminution via proven rotor-stator geometry The process-engineering heart of the instrument is the universally applicable generator with a stator diameter of 25 mm. The perfectly matched geometry of the rotor and stator generates extremely high mechanical impact, cutting and shear forces within the transient shear gap, whilst simultaneously delivering excellent axial flow capacity. This mechanical kinetics is ideally designed to capture, disintegrate and homogenise lumpy media, agglomerates, powders or liquid-liquid phases in the medium to high viscosity range in a flash. The flow-optimised design of the generator head ensures continuous circulation of the medium, thereby reliably minimising thermal hotspots in the sample vessel. Material inertness and unrestricted sterilisability The materials science-based design of the dispersing rod is consistently optimised for maximum chemical resilience and absolute freedom from contamination. All functional elements in contact with the medium are made of high-purity, stainless steel grade 1.4404 (AISI 316L). An extremely low-friction and wear-resistant PTFE bearing system is used for the shaft. This combination of materials allows for continuous use in aggressive acids, alkalis and organic solvents. To ensure a sterile sampling environment and to completely rule out cross-contamination in multi-user operations, the entire device can be easily sterilised in an autoclave or cleaned gently with standard disinfectants. Process reliability and seamless laboratory integration The mechatronic system architecture guarantees safe and vibration-free power transmission even at maximum speeds of up to 25,000 revolutions per minute. The dispersing shaft can be quickly and tool-free secured in the T 25 digital or T 25 easy clean drive via the standardised connection. Thanks to the flexible immersion depth of up to 165 mm and the fluid-mechanical geometry, the tool is certified for a wide working volume ranging from 50 to 2,000 ml (based on water). This offers laboratory managers and users maximum flexibility when processing varying sample batches on a daily basis directly at the workstation. The finest particles for the most demanding requirements: the IKA S 25 N – 25 F The IKA S 25 N – 25 F (MPN 0001713800) is a high-performance dispersing tool specially developed for applications where particularly fine particle sizes are required. Compatible with the drive units of the IKA T 25 series (e.g. T 25 digital, T 25 easy clean), this tool transforms your disperser into a precision instrument for demanding emulsification and suspension tasks. It covers a working range from 100 ml to 2,000 ml (H₂O), making it the ideal all-rounder for medium-sized laboratory batches. The ‘F’ makes all the difference: rotor-stator geometry for fine results At IKA, the designation “F” stands for “Fine”. In contrast to the standard version (“G”=“Coarse”), this tool features a specially designed rotor-stator geometry with narrower slots and smaller clearances. This results in higher shear rates and more intensive mechanical processing of the sample. The result is significantly smaller particle sizes and more stable emulsions. This makes the S 25 N - 25 F ideal for the production of creams and lotions in cosmetic development, the homogenisation of dairy products, or the fine grinding of fibrous samples that have already been pre-ground. PTFE bearings (“N”) for universal resistance The “N” in the model designation indicates the type of bearing used: high-quality PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is employed here. PTFE bearings are characterised by their excellent chemical resistance to almost all acids, alkalis and solvents. They also minimise heat build-up in the bearing area. Note: Tools with PTFE bearings are ideal for liquid applications, but must never be run dry, as the bearing is lubricated and cooled by the medium. Running the bearing dry would destroy it immediately. Material Quality and Hygiene All parts in contact with the medium are made from high-quality stainless steel (AISI 316L). This material is not only extremely corrosion-resistant but also meets the high hygiene requirements of the pharmaceutical and food industries. The tool is designed for operating temperatures of up to 180 °C and can be easily dismantled for cleaning and sterilisation. It is compatible with all standard sterilisation methods – including autoclaving (wet sterilisation) – which guarantees sterile operation in microbiological applications. Easy handling and maintenance Thanks to its standardised shank design, the S 25 N - 25 F can be mounted quickly and securely onto T 25 drives. Cleaning is straightforward thanks to its well-thought-out design: the tool can be dismantled into its individual parts in just a few simple steps to remove all residues and reliably prevent cross-contamination. The specialist for fibrous samples: IKA S 25 N - 8 G - ST dispersing tool The IKA S 25 N - 8 G - ST dispersing tool (MPN 0004446900) is a high-performance rotor-stator assembly for the IKA T 25 dispersing drives (e.g. T 25 digital, T 25 easy clean). Whilst standard tools often reach their limits and become blocked when grinding tissue or plant material, this model really comes into its own thanks to its special geometry. The secret: the sawtooth geometry (“ST”) The abbreviation “ST” stands for saw-tooth. The stator of this tool is fitted with sharp saw-tooth edges. Cutting & Tearing: Before the sample is drawn into the actual shearing gap between the rotor and stator, the saw teeth cut through tough, fibrous structures. No clogging: Muscle tissue, skin, plant fibres or tough food samples (e.g. meat) do not wrap round the shaft, but are efficiently shredded. High efficiency: You often save yourself the trouble of manually cutting up the sample with a scalpel beforehand. Perfect for small volumes (“8 G”) With a stator diameter of just 8 mm, this tool is designed for small sample volumes. Volume range: It homogenises volumes from 1 ml to 50 ml (based on water). Ideal for test tubes, Eppendorf tubes or small beakers. Coarse (“G”): The slot width is designed for primary, coarse fragmentation of solids in liquids, but produces fine emulsions and suspensions thanks to the extremely high speeds (up to 25,000 rpm). Durability and hygiene (“N”) The ‘N’ in the designation stands for the tried-and-tested PTFE bearing. Materials: All parts in contact with the medium are made of high-quality stainless steel (AISI 316L) and chemically highly resistant PTFE. Cleaning: The unit can be easily dismantled into its individual parts (rotor, stator, shaft, bearing) for cleaning without the need for special tools. Sterilisation: It is fully autoclavable (121 °C), which prevents cross-contamination in biological and medical applications. Areas of application Biology & Medicine: Homogenisation of fibrous muscle tissue, skin, liver or cartilage for DNA/RNA extraction. Food analysis: Grinding meat, vegetable or fruit samples. Agricultural research: Digestion of leaves, stems and roots. Pharmaceuticals: Grinding of coated tablets or tablets in solvents. Technical data Model: S 25 N - 8 G - ST Compatible with drives: IKA T 25 digital, T 25 easy clean digital/control Working range (H₂O volume): 1 – 50 ml Stator diameter: 8 mm Rotor diameter: 6.1 mm Gap between rotor and stator: 0.25 mm Maximum permissible speed: 25,000 rpm Immersion depth: 27 – 85 mm Materials in contact with the medium: stainless steel (AISI 316L), PTFE Maximum permissible operating temperature: 180 °C Sterilisation methods: Autoclavable (121 °C) Overall length: 108 mm Weight: approx. 0.1 kg Contents of delivery 1 x IKA dispersing tool S 25 N - 8 G - ST (Note: The T 25 drive motor is not included!) Custom requirements & accessories Is the PTFE bearing worn out after many hours of use? We offer the appropriate spare parts kit. Do you also need a tool for larger volumes (e.g. S 25 N - 18 G) or the matching T 25 drive motor? Please contact our procurement service.
Effective on tough samples: IKA S 25 N - 10 G - ST dispersing tool The IKA S 25 N - 10 G - ST dispersing tool (MPN 0004447100) is the solution for laboratories that regularly struggle with the homogenisation of viscous, fibrous or difficult-to-process materials. Designed as a high-performance attachment for the tried-and-tested IKA T 25 dispersing drives (e.g. T 25 digital), this tool has been specifically developed to prevent the dreaded clogging of the rotor. The innovation: sawtooth geometry (“ST”) What makes this tool special lies in the stator, which features an aggressive saw-tooth contour. Pre-cutting effect: Before the sample enters the actual shear gap, the sharp edges tear and cut through the tough structures. Continuous workflow: The wrapping of the shaft by tendons, plant fibres or polymer strands is effectively prevented. You can digest your samples in a fraction of the time, often without having to laboriously chop them up with a scalpel beforehand. The happy medium (“10 G”) With a stator diameter of 10 mm, this tool bridges the gap between micro-attachments and large standard tools. Volume range: It homogenises volumes from 1 ml to 100 ml (H₂O). This makes it the perfect all-rounder for centrifuge tubes (e.g. 15 ml or 50 ml Falcon tubes) and small beakers. Coarse (“G”): The slot width ensures high throughput and rapid primary comminution. With speeds of up to 25,000 rpm, you can still achieve very fine particle sizes. High-quality materials (“N”) The tool features a chemically highly resistant PTFE bearing (“N”). Easy to clean: After use, the dispersing tool can be dismantled into its individual parts in just a few simple steps for manual cleaning or sterilisation. Hygienic: All components in contact with the medium are made of high-quality stainless steel (AISI 316L) and PTFE. It is fully autoclavable at 121 °C. Areas of application Life sciences: Digestion of muscle tissue, skin or plant material for nucleic acid extraction. Food inspection: Homogenisation of fibrous meat or tough vegetables. Materials testing: Grinding of soft plastics, textile fibres or paper. Pharmaceuticals: Dissolving capsules or tablets in liquid media. The cutting specialist for fibrous media: IKA S 25 N - 18 G - ST With the S 25 N - 18 G - ST dispersing tool (MPN 0004447300), you can expand the range of applications for your IKA T 25 disperser (e.g. T 25 digital or T 25 easy clean) to include a crucial capability: the effective comminution of fibrous and viscous structures. Whilst conventional rotor-stator systems often become blocked with long-fibre samples or merely wrap the fibres around the rotor, this specialised tool reliably cuts them into small pieces. It covers a working volume range of 10 ml to 1,500 ml (H₂O) and is therefore ideal for sample preparation in biology, food chemistry or environmental analysis. Sawtooth technology (“ST”) for maximum cutting efficiency The abbreviation “ST” stands for “Saw Tooth”. If you look closely at the generator head, you can see its unique geometry: the stator ring is not only slotted but also features a serrated cutting edge. In combination with the high-speed rotating blade rotor, the system acts like a pair of extremely efficient scissors. This design makes the tool ideal for demanding tasks such as: Tissue disruption: shredding of muscle tissue, tendons or skin in medical diagnostics. Plant samples: homogenisation of leaves, roots or fibrous vegetables (e.g. asparagus, leeks). Material analysis: Processing of paper, pulp or textile samples. Durable and chemically resistant thanks to PTFE bearing (“N”) Like all “N” tools in the S 25 series, this model is also fitted with a high-quality PTFE bearing. PTFE (Teflon) is chemically almost inert and easily withstands aggressive acids, bases and solvents. This makes the tool universally applicable, regardless of the dispersing medium. Important note: As PTFE bearings require the medium for lubrication and cooling, the tool must not be allowed to run dry. Running dry would lead to immediate overheating and destruction of the bearings. Pharmaceutical-grade stainless steel The shaft and the generator elements are made of high-quality stainless steel (AISI 316L). This material is not only robust and rust-resistant, but also meets all hygiene requirements for use in the laboratory. The tool is designed for temperatures up to 180 °C and can be completely dismantled for cleaning. For sterile applications, the entire tool can be autoclaved (wet sterilisation) or sterilised with hot air, which effectively prevents cross-contamination. Easy replacement and cleaning Thanks to the standardised coupling, the S 25 N - 18 G - ST can be fitted to all drives in the T 25 range in a matter of seconds. It can be dismantled for cleaning without the need for special tools, ensuring that fibre residues can be safely removed from the cutting head. Technical data Compatible drives: IKA T 25 digital, T 25 easy clean (digital/control) Working range (H₂O): 10 – 1,500 ml Stator diameter: 18 mm Rotor diameter: 12.7 mm Design: G - ST (coarse with sawtooth) Bearing: N=PTFE bearing Material (in contact with the medium): Stainless steel (AISI 316L), PTFE Max. temperature: 180 °C Generator gap: 0.5 mm Immersion depth: 40 – 165 mm Sterilisation: All methods (fully autoclavable) Special feature: Cutting head for fibrous samples Contents of delivery 1 x IKA dispersing tool S 25 N - 18 G - ST Operating instructions (included with the drive or supplied separately) Individual requirements & accessories If you need to process extremely hard samples (e.g. tablets, bones), we may recommend using a pre-processing mill (e.g. IKA Tube Mill) instead of the cutting tools. For standard emulsions without fibres, it is better to use the classic “G” or “F” version without a serrated edge. Please contact our procurement service for application advice.

The reactor determines the length: The IKA S 25 KD - LR - 30 F was developed for the 5-litre LR-5.ST laboratory reactor and, at 267 millimetres, is longer than the standard tools. This allows it to penetrate deeper into the reactor and process even smaller minimum volumes. The stator diameter is 30 millimetres, whilst the rotor measures 23 millimetres.Emulsions with the F toolAccording to IKA, the F tool produces very fine emulsions down to 1 micron, but requires relatively low viscosities to do so. The final particle size ranges from 1 to 5 micrometres for emulsions and from 5 to 25 micrometres for suspensions. The gap between the rotor and stator is 0.5 millimetres; at 25,000 rpm, the peripheral speed is 30.1 metres per second.Vacuum and maintenanceThe unit may be operated under vacuum down to 100 mbar. Dismantling for cleaning and maintenance is simplified by the new design. Materials in contact with the product are AISI 316L, PTFE and FFPM; the operating temperature ranges up to 150 degrees Celsius, and the pH range is from 2 to 13. Sterilisation is permitted using all methods except hot air.Compatible equipmentIn addition to the LR-5.ST laboratory reactors (High-Performer and Versatile), the tool is compatible with the T 25 digital, T 25 easy clean digital and T 25 easy clean control.Typical applicationsDispersing and emulsifying in the LR-5.ST laboratory reactorEmulsions with a particle size down to 1 µm at low viscositiesBatches from 0.1 to 5 lOperations under vacuum down to 100 mbarProcesses requiring frequent dismantling for cleaningTechnical detailsStator diameter30 mmRotor diameter23 mmStator/rotor air gap width0.5 mmProcessable volume (H2O)0.1 to 5 lMaximum permissible speed25,000 rpmMaximum peripheral speed30.1 m/sImmersion depth40 to 220 mmInstallation length267 mmMaterial in contact with the productAISI 316L, PTFE, FFPMpH range2 to 13Suitable for solventsYesMax. operating temperature150 °CVacuum100 mbarSterilisabilityall methods except hot airFinal particle size of suspensions5 to 25 µmFinal particle size of emulsions1 to 5 µmFDA complianceYesScope of delivery1 x IKA S 25 KD - LR - 30 F dispersing tool (single tool)The drive is not included in the scope of delivery.Alternatives with a 25-millimetre diameterFor the T 25 easy clean, the S 25 EC - C - 25 F is available with an 18-millimetre rotor diameter and a working range of 0.1 to 2 l. Maximum efficiency in dissolution and deagglomeration: the IKA S 25 KV - 26 LR dissolver The IKA S 25 KV - 26 LR dissolver (MPN 0020015397) represents the very pinnacle of modern mixing and dispersion technology for demanding laboratory reactor systems. In many industrial and research sectors – be it in chemical synthesis, cosmetics development, paint production or food technology – users face the significant daily challenge of homogeneously incorporating fine powders, highly cohesive solids or sticky pigments into liquid media. Very often, stubborn agglomerates form when these solids are stirred in. These disruptive clumps of particles are simply moved in circles by conventional agitators such as propeller, paddle or anchor agitators, but are not effectively broken up mechanically. The result is incomplete reactions, poor textures or significantly prolonged process times. This high-speed dissolver was designed precisely for these critical and energy-intensive process steps. It delivers uncompromising performance in intensive mixing, dissolution and deagglomeration to ensure homogeneous, completely lump-free dispersions in the shortest possible time. The aerodynamic dissolver principle In direct comparison to a conventional rotor-stator dispersing tool, in which the medium is forced through a very narrow, defined gap between two components, the S 25 KV - 26 LR model utilises a specially serrated dissolver disc with a diameter of 26 millimetres. This solid metal disc rotates freely at extremely high speeds (high speed) within the liquid medium. The sharp teeth on the edge of the disc, which are alternately curved upwards and downwards, generate immense local shear forces and strong turbulence. The rotation accelerates the liquid radially outwards with great force, which simultaneously creates an enormous axial suction effect (vortex formation) at the centre. This intelligent flow pattern draws the floating or agglomerated powder particles from the liquid surface directly downwards towards the rotating toothed disc. There, they are literally shattered by the high kinetic energy of the teeth and broken down into their fine primary particles. In process engineering, this principle is the absolute gold standard method for the rapid incorporation of poorly wettable thickeners, colour pigments or high-molecular-weight polymers into aqueous or highly solvent-based systems. Vacuum and pressure tightness (the ‘KV’ seal) Another outstanding feature of this stirring tool, which is indispensable for many applications, is indicated by the specific abbreviation ‘KV’. In IKA products, this stands for a high-quality ball bearing system combined with a special sealing technology that makes the tool absolutely vacuum- and pressure-tight (up to the respective system-specific limits of the laboratory reactors). When working professionally with state-of-the-art laboratory reactors such as the IKA LR 1000 control System or the versatile LR-2.ST series, this leak-tightness is of fundamental importance. Sensitive chemical reactions or the production of high-purity cosmetics and emulsions often require the strict exclusion of oxygen. Users must work under a protective inert gas atmosphere or specifically degas the sample under vacuum to avoid disruptive air pockets in pasty, viscous media. A conventional, open dispersing tool would cause the reactor chamber to leak under these extreme conditions and ruin the process. The S 25 KV - 26 LR dissolver agitator, on the other hand, seals the reactor opening absolutely securely via the flange. This allows you to deagglomerate your samples at full high-speed rotation whilst a strong vacuum is maintained inside the vessel – an enormous technological advantage for process quality. Material quality, hygiene and compatibility As this dissolver stirrer is designed for direct, continuous contact with aggressive chemicals, highly abrasive pigments and reactive media, all parts in contact with the media (including the dissolver disc and the shaft) are made from high-quality, chemically extremely resistant AISI 316L stainless steel. This industrially proven material not only guarantees outstanding resistance to most organic solvents, acids and alkalis, but can also be cleaned safely and thoroughly after use, leaving no residue. Thanks to its robust construction, the unit is ideally suited to the rigours of everyday laboratory use. As an original accessory, the S 25 KV - 26 LR is precisely matched to IKA’s reactor platforms. It is fully compatible with the T 25 digital LR disperser, the LR 1000 systems (basic and control) and the entire LR-2.ST series (including Allrounder, High Performer and Starvisc). Investing in this highly specialised tool massively increases the efficiency of your laboratory processes, significantly reduces mixing times and decisively optimises the quality of your end products. Technical data Model: S 25 KV - 26 LR Product type: High-speed dissolver stirring shaft Operating principle: Dissolver disc (toothed disc) for high shear forces Dissolver disc diameter: 26 mm Max. immersion depth: 180 mm Bearing/seal: Ball bearing, vacuum- and pressure-tight (KV) Material in contact with the medium: Stainless steel (AISI 316L) Main application: Intensive mixing, dissolution, breaking up of agglomerates (e.g. pigments) Compatible drives/reactors: IKA T 25 digital LR, LR 1000 basic system, LR 1000 control system, LR-2.ST (Allrounder, High Performer, Versatile, Compact Power, Starvisc 200) Scope of supply 1 x IKA S 25 KV - 26 LR dissolver agitator (Please note: The reactor, drive motor and reactor lid are not included in the scope of delivery!) Maximum analytical reliability through impeccable hygiene: the IKA TS 25-3 Cleaning Tool In modern laboratory practice – be it in strictly regulated pharmaceutical quality control, highly sensitive food analysis or microbiological research – sample preparation is by far the most critical step. High-performance dispersing tools break down tissue, emulsify oils or suspend powders using immense shear forces. In the process, microscopically small sample particles are inevitably forced deep into the narrow gap between the rotor and stator, as well as into the tool’s internal plain bearings. If these residues are not removed one hundred per cent after every single sample, there is a risk of the dreaded cross-contamination (carry-over). Even invisible traces of DNA, allergens or active pharmaceutical ingredients from the previous sample can completely skew the subsequent analysis, leading to fatal misinterpretations or costly product recalls. Manually scrubbing the sharp-edged tools under running water is not only extremely time-consuming, but also poses a high risk of injury to laboratory staff. To standardise this essential cleaning process, make it safer and significantly speed it up, IKA has developed the TS 25-3 Cleaning Tool (MPN 0020003013). This intelligent cleaning system is the ultimate solution for all users of the T 25 disperser series who cannot afford to compromise on the cleanliness of their instruments. The systematic 3-stage cleaning procedure At the heart of the IKA TS 25-3 system lies not only the hardware itself, but also the establishment of a validatable Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for your laboratory. With this tool, IKA recommends a precisely defined and highly effective cleaning process comprising three consecutive steps: Pre-cleaning (solvent): In the first step, coarse contamination is removed. The contaminated dispersing tool is inserted into the first tube, which is filled with a solvent suitable for your sample. Switching on the dispersing drive creates a powerful suction that forces the solvent through the shear gap with high kinetic energy, mechanically and chemically dislodging even stubborn, greasy or sticky residues. Main cleaning (cleaning agent): In the second step, you move on to the next tube, which is filled with a specific laboratory cleaning agent (surfactant mixture). Here, proteins are denatured, fats are emulsified and any remaining organic or inorganic deposits are separated from the tool’s high-quality stainless steel at a molecular level. Final cleaning (rinsing): The third and final step takes place in the last tube, which contains pure, demineralised water. This rinsing cycle thoroughly washes all remaining traces of the previously used solvents and cleaning agents out of the tool. The result is a chemically pure, residue-free dispersion tool that is immediately ready for the next highly sensitive sample. Occupational health and safety at the highest level In addition to analytical purity, the TS 25-3 Cleaning Tool offers an invaluable advantage in terms of occupational health and safety. When solvents or aggressive surfactants are dispersed openly in a beaker to clean a tool, dangerous aerosols are inevitably produced, which can be inhaled by laboratory staff. The TS 25-3 system eliminates this hazard. The ingenious tube holder secures the three supplied tubes firmly and stably. Thanks to the matching caps, the cleaning process takes place in a largely enclosed system. This effectively prevents toxic solvents or hot cleaning solutions from being sprayed out. It also eliminates the need for dangerous manual handling with brushes near the razor-sharp, rotating blades of the dispersing tool. Comprehensive compatibility with the T 25 ecosystem IKA has seamlessly integrated this cleaning tool into its existing product portfolio. The TS 25-3 Cleaning Tool is designed exclusively for use in combination with the globally proven high-performance dispersers of the T 25 class, namely the T 25 digital and the modern high-tech drives T 25 easy clean digital and T 25 easy clean control. In terms of tools, the system covers an enormous range. It has been specifically developed for cleaning a wide variety of stainless steel dispersing tools, including models from the S 25 N series (e.g. S25N-18G/18G-ST, S25N-25G/F/25G-ST), the S 25 KR series (e.g. S25KR-18G/18G-ST, S25KR-25G/25F/25G-ST) and the vacuum-sealed S 25 KV series (S25KV-18G/25G/25F). Cost-effectiveness and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) At first glance, a specialised cleaning tool may seem like nothing more than a luxury item. However, if a detailed full-cost analysis is carried out, the TS 25-3 pays for itself extremely quickly in laboratories with high sample throughput. The working time saved by highly qualified laboratory staff, who no longer have to stand at the sink for minutes on end, is considerable. Far more crucial, however, is the extension of the service life of your expensive dispersing tools. Improper manual cleaning often leads to microscopic scratches on the stator or damage to the sensitive plain bearings caused by dried-on sample residues. Hydrodynamic cleaning in the TS 25-3 is gentle on the material, prevents shafts from seizing up and thus massively reduces your ongoing spare parts costs. Investing in the IKA TS 25-3 Cleaning Tool means investing in certifiable process reliability, the protection of your staff and the uncompromising reliability of your analytical results. Technical data System type: 3-stage cleaning system for dispersing tools Cleaning phases: 1. Solvent, 2. Detergent, 3. Demineralised water Compatible drive motors: IKA T 25 digital, T 25 easy clean digital, T 25 easy clean control Compatible tools (selection): S 25 N series (18G, 25G, 25F), S 25 KR series, S 25 KV series Health and safety benefit: Reduces aerosol formation and contact with sharp rotor blades Analytical benefit: Prevents cross-contamination (carry-over) Contents 1 x tube holder (sturdy base) 3 x cleaning tubes 3 x caps (for splash and aerosol protection) (Please note: The dispersion drive and the dispersion tools are not included in the scope of delivery!) Individual requirements & accessories Have you switched to the newer generation of ‘easy clean’ (EC) tools in your laboratory, which can be cleaned without any dismantling? For machine cleaning in the laboratory dishwasher, we recommend the IKA HS 25 EC - DW Holder as a supplementary item. Do you work with highly infectious samples and wish to avoid cleaning altogether? In that case, we would be happy to advise you on IKA’s sterile, single-use plastic tools. Please feel free to contact our expert procurement service at any time for a bespoke optimisation of your laboratory processes.
The gold standard for contamination-free sample preparation: the IKA S 25 D - 10 G - KS disposable dispersing tool In highly specialised analytical laboratories, medical diagnostics, forensic evidence collection and modern biotechnological research, the quality of sample preparation is the crucial foundation for valid results. When grinding and homogenising tissue samples, cell cultures or infectious materials using a high-performance disperser from the IKA T 25 series, enormous mechanical shear forces are at work. These forces inevitably force microscopically small components of the sample deep into the mechanical gaps and plain bearings of the tool being used. Unless a conventional stainless-steel tool is laboriously dismantled, chemically cleaned and sterilised in an autoclave after every single sample, there is a risk of the dreaded cross-contamination (carry-over). It is precisely to address this critical, time-consuming and error-prone issue that IKA has developed the revolutionary S 25 D - 10 G - KS disposable dispersing tool (MPN 0003452200). Supplied in a cost-effective pack of 12, this tool, made from high-quality medical-grade plastic, offers uncompromising homogenisation performance whilst providing 100 per cent protection against sample carry-over. The end of cross-contamination in highly sensitive processes The fundamental concept behind the “KS” (plastic) series is the single-use principle. In fields such as PCR (polymerase chain reaction) analysis, next-generation sequencing (NGS) or toxicological testing, even a single carried-over DNA molecule or a tiny trace of an active substance from a previous sample can lead to false-positive results. At best, such misinterpretations merely ruin an expensive series of experiments; at worst, however, they can lead to incorrect medical diagnoses or forensic evidence that is inadmissible in court. With the IKA S 25 D - 10 G - KS, you can completely eliminate this risk. For each new patient or environmental sample, you remove a brand-new, unused tool from its packaging. After the dispersion process, the plastic tool is simply disposed of properly, together with the potentially contaminated residual sample. The error-prone and time-consuming cleaning and sterilisation cycle required for conventional stainless steel tools is completely eliminated, raising your process reliability (GLP/GMP) to an unprecedented level. Technological precision: 10 mm stator and coarse (G) geometry Despite being designed as a single-use item, this tool is in no way inferior to its steel counterparts in terms of homogenisation efficiency. It operates on the highly effective rotor-stator principle. The stator has a precisely dimensioned diameter of 10 millimetres (hence the ‘10’ in the product name). This compact size defines the optimal working range: the tool is precisely designed for the rapid homogenisation of small to medium sample volumes in the range of 10 to 100 millilitres (based on the viscosity of water). The abbreviation ‘G’ stands for a coarse slot geometry on the stator. This open, high-throughput design is of fundamental importance when you need to process coarse-grained, tough or highly fibrous raw materials. Plant roots, muscle tissue, cartilage or compact pharmaceutical tablets are drawn deep into the shear gap by the rotor’s powerful axial suction forces and shattered there into their finest components at speeds of up to 24,000 revolutions per minute. Cost-effectiveness and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in the laboratory At first glance, the ongoing purchase of disposable tools is often regarded as an additional cost factor. However, a detailed total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis in day-to-day laboratory practice consistently proves the exact opposite. The purchase cost of an IKA S 25 D single-use tool is significantly lower than the cumulative cost of the working time a highly qualified laboratory technician spends each day at the sink dismantling and brushing stainless steel tools. Added to this are the substantial savings on expensive, aggressive cleaning chemicals, the energy consumption of the autoclave, and the inevitable wear and tear on PTFE slide bearings and seals in conventional instruments. By using single-use technology, laboratories drastically increase their sample throughput. Staff are freed from tedious cleaning tasks and can once again concentrate on the actual, value-adding scientific analysis. System integration for maximum occupational safety (splash protection) The S 25 D - 10 G - KS is designed as a precisely fitting original accessory exclusively for the IKA T 25 dispersion drives (compatible with T 25 digital, T 25 easy clean digital and T 25 easy clean control). Another advantage of this system, which is absolutely crucial for occupational health and safety, is its compatibility with IKA disposable tubes (e.g. the ET50 tube). Fitting this protective tube onto the tool shaft creates a completely sealed system. When dispersing infectious bacterial cultures, toxic chemicals or extremely foul-smelling environmental samples, no dangerous splashes or invisible aerosols can escape into the laboratory environment or the fume cupboard. You therefore not only protect yourself and your staff from dangerous pathogens, but also prevent external contamination of your valuable laboratory instruments. Maximum analytical reliability for medium and large volumes: the IKA S 25 D - 14 G - KS disposable dispersing tool In modern, highly specialised laboratory analysis, medical and clinical diagnostics, and forensic evidence collection, sample preparation forms the absolute, critical foundation for all subsequent investigations. When pulverising animal and plant tissue samples, homogenising viscous cell cultures or processing infectious environmental materials using a high-performance disperser from the renowned IKA T 25 series, enormous mechanical shear forces are at work. These physical forces inevitably force microscopically small, often invisible components of the sample deep into the mechanical gaps and internal plain bearings of the tool being used. Unless a conventional reusable stainless-steel tool is painstakingly dismantled, chemically cleaned, brushed and then sterilised in an autoclave after every single sample, there is a risk of cross-contamination (known as ‘carry-over’), which is dreaded by laboratory technicians. To finally eliminate this highly critical, extremely time-consuming and error-prone problem from your day-to-day laboratory routine, IKA has developed the revolutionary S 25 D - 14 G - KS single-use dispersing tool (MPN 0003452100). Supplied in a cost-effective and practical pack of 12, this tool, made from high-quality medical-grade plastic, offers uncompromising homogenisation performance whilst ensuring absolute protection against any sample carry-over. The end of cross-contamination in highly sensitive processes The fundamental and truly groundbreaking concept behind the ‘KS’ (plastic) series is based on the strict single-use principle. In highly sensitive fields such as PCR (polymerase chain reaction) analysis, preparation for next-generation sequencing (NGS) or toxicological investigations in forensic medicine, even a single, invisibly carried-over DNA molecule or a minuscule trace of an active substance from a previous sample can lead to so-called false-positive results. At best, such catastrophic misinterpretations ‘merely’ ruin an extremely expensive and time-consuming series of experiments; at worst, however, they can lead to fundamentally incorrect medical diagnoses or chains of evidence that are inadmissible in court. By using the IKA S 25 D - 14 G - KS, you eliminate this enormous analytical risk one hundred per cent. For every new patient or environmental sample, you remove a completely fresh, unused and hygienically impeccable tool directly from its packaging. After the dispersion process, the plastic tool is simply disposed of properly as clinical waste, together with any potentially infectious or contaminated residual sample. The error-prone, extremely time-consuming and expensive cleaning and sterilisation cycle required for conventional stainless steel tools is completely eliminated, raising your process reliability and compliance with standards (GLP/GMP) to an unprecedented level. The 14-millimetre advantage: powerful for medium to large volumes In direct comparison with the smaller 10 mm instruments, this S 25 D - 14 G - KS model stands out due to its significantly larger stator diameter of 14 millimetres (indicated by the ‘14’ in the product designation). This larger size greatly expands the tool’s efficient working range: you can homogenise sample volumes from 10 millilitres up to a substantial 500 millilitres (based on the viscosity of water) effortlessly, quickly and with absolute reproducibility. The additional suffix ‘G’ denotes a coarse slot geometry on the stator. This open, high-throughput geometry is of fundamental importance when dealing with coarse-grained, extremely tough or highly fibrous feedstocks. Sturdy plant roots, tough muscle tissue, tough cartilage, coated pharmaceutical tablets or compact food samples are drawn deep into the shear gap by the powerful axial suction forces of the 14-mm rotor. There, at speeds of up to 24,000 revolutions per minute, they are cut and pulverised into their finest components by the sharp plastic edges. Cost-effectiveness and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in the modern laboratory At first, cursory glance, the ongoing purchase of single-use tools is very often regarded as an additional and unnecessary cost factor. However, a detailed full-cost analysis (Total Cost of Ownership) in real-world laboratory practice proves the exact opposite in almost every case. The purchase cost of a single IKA S 25 D disposable tool is significantly lower than the cumulative cost of the expensive working time a highly qualified laboratory technician spends daily at the sink dismantling, laboriously brushing and reassembling conventional stainless steel tools. Added to this are the substantial, often hidden savings on expensive, aggressive cleaning chemicals, the high energy and water consumption of the autoclave, and the inevitable and costly wear and tear on PTFE slide bearings and seals in stainless steel models. Through the consistent use of single-use technology, analytical laboratories drastically increase their sample throughput. Highly qualified staff are freed from repetitive, tedious cleaning tasks and can finally concentrate fully once again on the actual, value-adding scientific analysis of the data. System integration for maximum occupational safety (aerosol protection) The IKA S 25 D - 14 G - KS is designed as a precisely fitting original accessory exclusively for the globally proven IKA T 25 dispersing drives. It can be coupled seamlessly and without play to the T 25 digital, the T 25 easy clean digital and the T 25 easy clean control. Another advantage of this system, which is absolutely crucial and indispensable for modern occupational health and safety, is its 100% compatibility with IKA disposable tubes (such as the S 18/25-ET50 tube). Simply attaching this protective tube to the tool shank creates a fully self-contained system. When dispersing infectious bacterial cultures, highly toxic chemicals or extremely foul-smelling environmental samples at maximum speed, this ensures that no dangerous splashes or invisible, respirable aerosols can escape into the laboratory environment or the fume cupboard. In this way, you not only effectively protect yourself and your staff from dangerous pathogens, but also prevent the unnoticed external contamination of your valuable laboratory instruments, balances and pipettes in the immediate vicinity. Perfect emulsions without unwanted air entrapment: the IKA Silentstream flow breaker In demanding product development, cosmetic formulation, food technology and chemical synthesis, high-performance dispersion is one of the most important, yet physically demanding, methods of sample preparation. When a dispersing tool based on the rotor-stator principle operates in an open beaker or reactor at speeds of 10,000 to 25,000 revolutions per minute, it not only generates enormous shear forces to break down the particles. At the same time, a massive rotational flow is generated within the liquid. This flow inevitably leads to the formation of a deep, crater-shaped vortex – known as a ‘trombe’. This vortex often extends right down to the stator’s suction ports. The fatal consequence: the disperser continuously draws in massive quantities of ambient air into the liquid medium. It is precisely to address this serious process-related problem that IKA has developed the innovative Silentstream accessory (MPN 0003754000). This intelligent flow baffle is the ultimate solution for reducing air ingress to an absolute minimum and significantly improving the quality of your dispersions. The negative consequences of air entrapment in everyday laboratory work Why is air in a dispersed sample so extremely harmful? The unwanted introduction of air through vortex formation causes three major problems in everyday laboratory work: Firstly, the entrained air leads to excessive foaming. Highly foaming samples (such as protein-containing solutions or surfactant-containing shampoos) overflow from the beaker, contaminate the workstation and result in the loss of valuable sample material. Secondly, microscopic air bubbles ruin the physical stability and texture of fine emulsions. A high-quality cosmetic cream or pharmaceutical ointment produced with air entrapments looks unattractive, feels dull on the skin and is prone to rapid phase separation (coalescence). Thirdly – and this is the most critical point for analytical purposes – constant contact with atmospheric oxygen at extreme shear rates leads to severe oxidation. Ingredients susceptible to oxidation, such as valuable vitamins, highly sensitive active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) or unsaturated fatty acids in food samples, are inevitably destroyed by this process, which completely skews the subsequent analysis. The physical solution: the flow breaker principle The IKA Silentstream tackles the physical cause of this problem head-on. The ring-shaped component is simply slid from below over the shaft of the dispersing tool (for example, the T 25 series) and positioned within the liquid medium. Thanks to its specially calculated, asymmetrical geometry, the Silentstream acts as a highly effective flow disruptor (flow disruptor). It disrupts the uniform rotational movement of the liquid generated by the rapidly rotating rotor. The liquid is slowed down by the Silentstream and redirected into a chaotic, predominantly axial flow. The result is absolutely astonishing: The rotation of the entire fluid mass comes to a near standstill, the surface of the medium instantly stabilises and the deep, air-sucking vortex disappears completely. The disperser can continue to operate at maximum speed and full grinding capacity, but now draws in only pure liquid instead of a destructive air-liquid mixture. Time savings and cost-effectiveness (TCO) in production In addition to the dramatic improvement in the quality of your end products, using the IKA Silentstream offers an invaluable economic advantage. If you have previously had to disperse highly foaming samples, you will be familiar with the problem of extremely long waiting times: you had to switch off the disperser after just a few seconds and wait for the voluminous foam to subside before you could continue the process. Alternatively, you had to add expensive chemical defoamers (antifoam agents), which distorted the chemical composition of your pure sample. With the Silentstream, these forced pauses are completely eliminated. You can complete the dispersion process in a single, continuous and rapid pass. This drastically reduces process times in your laboratory, increases daily sample throughput and significantly lowers the laboratory’s total cost of ownership for sample preparation. Occupational health and safety and seamless system integration A further positive side effect of the stabilised liquid surface is the substantial improvement in occupational health and safety. As the strong vortex and chaotic wave formation against the vessel wall are suppressed, the splashing of potentially hazardous, hot or toxic sample liquids out of the open beaker is extremely effectively prevented. The fume cupboard remains clean, and staff are protected. The Silentstream is manufactured from high-quality, chemical-resistant materials that easily withstand the common solvents, acids and alkalis encountered in everyday laboratory work. Thanks to its flow-optimised design, it can be cleaned very easily and thoroughly after use, leaving no residue, which prevents dangerous cross-contamination between different sample batches and ensures compliance with strict GLP guidelines. Invest in this unassuming yet technologically outstanding accessory to realise the full potential of your IKA disperser and produce flawless, air-free and highly stable dispersions.
