Memmert Incubator IF160mplus, 161 l, +20 to +80 °C, TwinDISPLAY

The Memmert Incubator Im IF160mplus is a class I medical device under Regulation (EU) 2017/745, intended for warming irrigation and infusion solutions and contrast media. With 161 litres and up to eight shelves, it is the larger of the two IF-mplus models with 560 mm internal width. Two stainless steel grid shelves are included as standard.

TwinDISPLAY control

Two Pt100 sensors of DIN class A monitor each other in 4-wire measurement, and if one sensor fails, the other automatically takes over its function. The setting temperature range extends from +20 to +80 °C with a setting accuracy of 0.1 °C. The ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY controls via two TFT colour graphic displays, and HeatBALANCE shifts the heating power between the upper and lower heating group by up to 50 per cent in each direction. AtmoCONTROL transfers programs via Ethernet or USB, and the program sequence remains stored in the event of a power failure. SetpointWAIT only starts the process time once the setpoint temperature has been reached, and three values can be calibrated.

Safety concept

A mechanical temperature limiter of protection class 1 to DIN 12880 switches the heating off at approx. 20 °C above the maximum cabinet temperature, supplemented by an adjustable temperature monitor of protection class 3.1 or adjustable temperature limiter of protection class 2 selectable on the display. AutoSAFETY monitors the setpoint at a freely selectable distance, reports deviations visually and audibly, and switches the heating off in the event of an overshoot. A self-diagnosis system helps with fault finding. The fully insulated stainless steel door with 2-point locking and the inner glass door close the chamber. The permanently installed sterilisation program (4 h at 160 °C) is used for sterilising the interior and is not intended for sterilising the load.

Construction, connection and dimensions

The interior is made of deep-drawn ribbed stainless steel and has protected, integrated 4-sided all-round heating. The air turbine can be electronically controlled in 10 % steps, and preheated fresh air is admixed via the exhaust air flap. The IF160mplus is operated with 230 V at approx. 1,600 W or with 115 V at approx. 900 W, each 50/60 Hz. Internally the cabinet measures 560 x 720 x 400 mm, externally 745 x 1,104 x 584 mm, and the net weight is around 96 kg. A total load of 210 kg is permitted at 20 kg per shelf.

Distinction from the SingleDISPLAY variant and the laboratory device

The IF160m has SingleDISPLAY, one Pt100 sensor and no HeatBALANCE, and as a class I medical device it has a different intended purpose: warming and keeping warm of fango, silicate and APS packs in physiotherapy. Without a medical intended purpose, but with TwinDISPLAY and the same chamber size, the IF160plus belongs to the laboratory range.

Selection guide: smaller or larger chamber

The smaller IF110mplus offers 108 litres with five shelves, and the larger IF260mplus reaches 256 litres and up to nine shelves at 300 kg total load.
