The Memmert Incubator IN55m is a class I medical device according to Regulation (EU) 2017/745 with the intended purpose of warming and keeping warm fango, silicate and APS packs in physiotherapy. With 53 litres of internal volume and internal dimensions of 400 x 400 x 330 mm, it sits between the smaller IN30m and the larger IN75m. One electropolished stainless steel grid shelf is supplied as standard, and up to four shelves are possible.
Control and sensors
The temperature is controlled by the ControlCOCKPIT SingleDISPLAY: an adaptive, multifunctional PID microprocessor controller with a high-resolution digital TFT colour graphic display. Measurement is via a Pt100 sensor of DIN class A in 4-wire technology, and the setting accuracy is 0.1 °C. The digital countdown timer with target time display can be set from 1 minute to 99 days, and SetpointWAIT ensures that the process time begins to run only after the set temperature has been reached. Three freely selectable temperature values are available for calibration.
Ventilation, safety and logging
Preheated fresh air enters the naturally ventilated interior via an electronically adjustable flap, and at the exhaust air outlet an electronically adjustable throttle valve regulates the outlet. At around 20 °C above the maximum permissible oven temperature, a mechanical temperature limiter of protection class 1 according to DIN 12880 takes effect and switches off the heating, and an electronic temperature monitor can also be set. A built-in self-diagnosis system detects faults. The program sequence remains saved in the event of a power failure. The data logger is read out via the Ethernet interface, and a time-limited trial version of AtmoCONTROL is available for download for this purpose. A USB stick with the software is available as an accessory.
Interior, loading and connection
Inside, the IN55m is lined with easy-care, deep-drawn ribbed stainless steel, and the heating is protected and runs all round on all four sides. One electropolished stainless steel grid shelf is included as standard, up to four shelves fit inside, and a total of 80 kg at 20 kg per shelf is permitted. The fully insulated stainless steel door is locked by 2-point locking with a compression door lock, and behind it is an inner glass door. The power connection is 230 V at approx. 1,000 W, and in the 115 V version approx. 900 W, in each case 50/60 Hz. Externally, the housing measures 585 x 784 x 514 mm plus 56 mm for the door handle, and the oven weighs around 57 kg net.
Distinction: laboratory unit IN55 and IN55mplus
If you do not need a medical intended purpose, LT Laborhandel carries the Memmert Incubator IN55in the same size. Also with 53 litres, there is the IN55mplus: it shows the values via a ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY instead of the SingleDISPLAY, and its intended purpose differs fundamentally from the IN55m. It is intended for tempering irrigation and infusion solutions and contrast media, not for warming fango, silicate and APS packs.
Choosing the right size
The smaller IN30m offers 32 litres, three shelves and 60 kg total load. If more space is needed, the IN75m with 74 litres, six shelves and 120 kg total load is one step above the IN55m.
