Forced-air models in the UF series feature an electronically controlled air turbine and actively distribute heat throughout the interior, which ensures shorter heating times for very densely packed batches of varying sizes, though only from 10 °C rather than 5 °C above room temperature. For materials sensitive to dust or air movement, such as in materials testing with samples laid out in the open, the natural convection of the UN260 remains the more technically suitable choice. Anyone needing to incubate cultures below room temperature or store samples at an exactly constant temperature often cannot avoid the vibration and refrigerant of compressor-cooled units. The Memmert IPP260eco Peltier-cooled incubator instead controls temperature via Advanced Peltier Technology between 0 and +70 °C, with no compressor and no refrigerant at all, offering 256 litres of usable volume for microbiology and related laboratory fields. This makes it possible, for example, to store a culture overnight at a fixed, low temperature without vibration from the cooling unit distorting the result. Advanced Peltier Technology without a compressor The Peltier element sits in the rear of the unit and works on the heat pump principle: depending on requirements, the same component either heats or cools, so a refrigerant circuit is not needed at all. A fan forces air to circulate inside the chamber. As a result, according to Memmert, control remains precise with very small deviations, and operation is quieter and lower in vibration than with a compressor-cooled unit, an advantage for vibration-sensitive cultures and for laboratories where several incubators stand close together. Working range with and without interior lighting The setpoint can be set between 0 and +70 °C. With the interior lighting switched on, Memmert states a working range of +10 to +40 °C; without lighting, the range extends from at least 20 degrees below ambient temperature, though never below 0 degrees, up to +70 °C. Anyone working at very low temperatures is therefore best advised to switch off the interior lighting deliberately, in order to use the full cooling range. SingleDISPLAY and AtmoCONTROL The SingleDISPLAY control system shows the setpoint and actual value on a high-resolution TFT colour display and can be operated in nine languages. SetpointWAIT delays the start of the process time until the set temperature has actually been reached. The digital countdown timer can be set from one minute to 99 days. Via the Ethernet interface, the AtmoCONTROL software reads out and manages the data from the internal logger; a trial version is available for download, and a USB stick with the full software is available as an accessory on request. Safety technology and fittings An adjustable electronic overtemperature monitor works together with a mechanical temperature limiter, and a self-diagnostic system reports faults automatically. The fully insulated stainless steel door closes via a two-point locking mechanism, and the additional inner glass door keeps the temperature stable during a brief look inside the unit, without the main door having to be opened every time. Two electropolished stainless steel grid shelves are already fitted, and up to nine shelves and 200 kilograms of load are possible according to the datasheet. Markings, connected load and installation The IPP260eco carries, according to the data sheet, the CE, VDE and UL marks and is factory-calibrated at +10, +25 and +40 °C. The electrical connected load is around 600 watts at both 230 volts and 115 volts. Clearance from the rear wall should be at least 15 centimetres, from the ceiling at least 20 centimetres, and from a side wall or neighbouring unit at least 5 centimetres. The permissible ambient temperature is between 16 and 40 °C at a maximum of 70 % relative humidity and an installation altitude of up to 2,000 metres above sea level. The IPPeco range: Peltier-cooled incubators in several sizes The IPP260eco belongs to the IPPeco Peltier range, which Memmert states is designed for particularly high temperature uniformity with minimal control deviation. Alongside the 256-litre model, Memmert also offers the range in other volumes, so laboratories can choose between smaller and larger interiors within the same technology and operating logic, depending on how many samples need to be incubated or stored at the same time. It cools with a compressor, controls temperature from -10 to +60 °C and actively controls humidity from 10 to 80 % rh, with humidification and dehumidification. Operation is via the ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY. The unit stands mobile on castors, and the external dimensions are 824 x 1,552 x 685 mm (W x H x D).Compressor cooling and air jacket temperature controlCooling and heating is by a compressor system that works with the refrigerant R290 (propane) and is CFC-free. An automatic defrost is included. The interior is temperature-controlled via an air jacket system, and the thermal jacket is separated from the interior, so that no evaporator-related drying out of the material occurs. An electronically controllable air turbine can be set in 10 % steps.Temperature and humidityWithout humidity, the working range extends from -10 °C to +60 °C, with humidity from +10 °C to +60 °C. At sub-zero temperatures the chamber is not suitable for permanent storage, and in continuous operation the glass door can ice up. Humidity is displayed with a resolution of 0.1 % and can be set to an accuracy of 0.5 %, temperature to 0.1 °C. A hot steam generator humidifies, and humidity is supplied with distilled water from an external container via a self-priming pump, with a water canister with connection hose included. Programs are transferred via Ethernet or USB with the AtmoCONTROL software, and the program sequence remains saved in the event of a power failure. A mechanical temperature limiter of protection class 1 according to DIN 12880 switches the heating off at approx. 10 °C above the maximum chamber temperature. On the display, an adjustable temperature monitor of protection class 3.3 or an adjustable temperature limiter of protection class 2 can also be selected. In the Memmert Compressor-Cooled incubator ICP260, 256 litres are available in an interior of 640 × 800 × 500 mm (W×H×D), into which up to 9 shelves fit. It is the second of four ICP sizes. The unit cools and heats between -12 and +60 °C, the compressor system works with the refrigerant R290 propane, and control is via a TwinDISPLAY. Externally the unit measures 824 × 1,552 × 684 mm, plus 56 mm for the door handle.Fitting with up to nine shelvesTwo electropolished stainless steel grid shelves are installed as standard, and a maximum of 9 shelves can be used. One shelf carries up to 20 kg, and the whole unit up to 200 kg. The usable depth is 33 mm below the nominal dimension because the fan needs space. The unit is mobile and lockable and has a fully galvanised sheet steel rear wall. It weighs approx. 157 kg net and must be transported upright. It is installed with at least 15 cm distance to the wall behind the unit, 20 cm to the ceiling and 5 cm at the sides to wall or neighbouring unit.Creating programs, saving profilesThe ControlCOCKPIT consists of an adaptive digital PID microprocessor controller and two high-resolution TFT colour graphic displays. With the AtmoCONTROL software, programs can be created, managed and transferred via Ethernet or USB port. The countdown clock covers 1 minute to 99 days and shows the target time, and SetpointWAIT lets the process time begin only when the setpoint temperature has been reached. If the power fails, the program sequence remains saved. Temperature can be displayed in Celsius or Fahrenheit, plus speed of the circulating air motor, time zones and summer/winter time, and three freely selectable temperature values can be calibrated.Cooling circuit and the limit below 0 °CThe compressor circuit is CFC-free and equipped with an automatic defrost. Heating and cooling act via an air jacket, and the thermal jacket is separated from the interior. Evaporator-related drying out of the material therefore does not occur. The setting range extends down to -12 °C. The ICP260 is not suitable for permanent storage at sub-zero temperatures, and in continuous operation the glass door can also ice up.Two sensors and several protective functionsTwo Pt100 sensors of DIN class A measure in 4-wire technology, monitor each other and take over the function of the other in the event of a fault. The temperature setting accuracy is 0.1 °C. Protection is provided by a mechanical temperature limiter TB (protection class 1, DIN 12880), which switches the heating off around 10 °C above the maximum chamber temperature, as well as a TWW (protection class 3.3) or TWB (protection class 2) selectable on the display. AutoSAFETY adds an over- and under-temperature protection with a freely selectable interval to the setpoint: alarm on deviation, heating off when exceeded, cooling unit off when fallen below. Alarms appear visually and acoustically, and a self-diagnosis system helps with troubleshooting.Between ICP110 and ICP450The ICP110 has 108 litres, up to 5 shelves and 150 kg per unit. Anyone who needs more levels is right with the ICP260, because with 9 shelves it even has more levels than the larger ICP450, which allows only up to 8 shelves. The ICP450 is, in return, 1,040 mm wide and 600 mm deep inside (ICP260: 640 and 500 mm) and carries 30 kg per shelf instead of 20 kg. Anyone who needs to control air humidity at the same volume of 256 litres should look at the ICH260 climate chamber with active humidification and dehumidification from 10 to 80 % rh. With 256 litres of internal volume, the Memmert Pass-through oven UF260TS offers more capacity than the most compact model of the TS series, with the same airlock function between the grey area and the clean room. Two fully insulated stainless steel doors on opposite sides pass load material directly between the room areas, controlled via TwinDISPLAY in the range +20 to +250 °C.Design and dimensionsThe interior measures 640 x 800 x 500 mm and the housing externally 825 x 1,314 x 682 mm plus the door handles. 2 electropolished stainless steel grid shelves are included as standard, up to 9 shelves can be fitted, with up to 20 kg per shelf and up to 300 kg total permissible load. The net weight is around 138 kg, and packed in the carton (930 x 1,380 x 930 mm) around 189 kg. As with the smaller model, a door interlock for alternating opening can be ordered from the factory, as contamination protection for wall installation.Control: ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAYThe controller works with two high-resolution TFT colour graphic displays, and the HeatBALANCE function adjusts the heating power distribution between the upper and lower heating group in the range from -50 to +50 %. SetpointWAIT lets the process time start only when the setpoint temperature has actually been reached, and a calibration function covers three freely selectable temperature values. The electronically controllable air turbine works in 10 % steps, and an exhaust air flap admixes preheated fresh air. Programmes are managed via Ethernet or USB with AtmoCONTROL, and the sequence remains stored in the event of a power failure. The setting accuracy is 0.1 °C up to a setpoint temperature of 99.9 °C and 0.5 °C from 100 °C.Electrical connection and installationThe UF260TS is connected at 230 V at approx. 3,400 W or at 115 V at approx. 1,800 W, in each case 50/60 Hz. An installation altitude of up to 2,000 m above sea level is permissible at an ambient temperature of +5 °C to +40 °C and a relative humidity of at most 80 %, non-condensing. The cabinet may only be transported upright.Safety according to DIN 12880Two Pt100 sensors of DIN class A monitor each other in 4-wire measurement and automatically take over the function of the other in the event of a fault. A mechanical temperature limiter of protection class 1 according to DIN 12880 switches off the heating around 20 °C above the maximum cabinet temperature, and AutoSAFETY additionally monitors over- and under-temperature with an alarm. A self-diagnosis system detects faults early, and visual and audible alarms report faults immediately.Selection guide: between UF160TS and UF450TSIf the 161 litres of the smaller Memmert pass-through oven UF160TS are no longer sufficient, the UF260TS with 256 litres and up to 9 shelves is the obvious next size. For heavier goods of over 20 kg per shelf or a three-phase connection, the larger Memmert pass-through oven UF450TS is the more suitable choice.
